Due: The Treatment of Women in Game of Thrones There are two major portrayals of the women in the Game of Thrones. On one hand there is a demeaning and lowly treatment. This can be envisioned by the way King Joffrey beats Ros to death as a means of satisfying his sadistic tendencies (Game of Thrones). The way the Dothraki treat their women is also a significant point of note as it shows them merely as objects of desire to be used and abused (Game of Thrones). It is emphasized when even Daenerys is initially given no notice by her then husband, Khal Drogo. Cersei’s rape is also a major point of note as it reduces her to an object for Jamie Lannister’s satisfaction (Game of Thrones). However despite some of these obviously demeaning portrayals, the Game of Thrones gives women a significant placing in the land of Westeros. Daenerys emerges as the leader of a powerful army that goes about freeing slaves. She is supported by men but retains the counsel of her handmaiden Missandei. It shows the faith she places in her fellow woman above all else (Game of Thrones). Catelyn Stark and Cersei Lannister are also examples of the way women in the series show considerable strength to navigate their various families. Arya is also a major character as she shows she is strong enough to survive as a prisoner and then with the Hound and finally in Braavos (Game of Thrones). Her sister Sansa also grows up from a frightened and abused girl at Joffrey’s hands to a cunning companion to Littlefinger. Even Melissandre is shown to be the real power behind Stannis Baratheon (Game of Thrones). From these examples it is possible to see that the show can be viewed from two distinct points of view.

...?Women Rights Feminism is a movement derived from the west in the mid 18th century. It can be said that the first wave of feminism started in the early 1848 and it lasted till the 1960s after which the women started getting their rights. However some argue that the movement ended in the 1920s as the constitution to allow women to vote was passed in this very year.. This essay would further...

Vietnam: How We Got There

... Vietnam: How We Got There? Introduction In 1946, alliance between the Vietminh and France weakened, and all-out war erupted between them of the same year (Schulzinger 1997, 5). At first the United States only played the role of an onlooker. Washington continued its tradition of regarding Indochina as a particularly minor region. Formally the United States declared that the concern of Indochina’s future involved France, but eventually, top American officers started to pay more involved attention on Southeast Asia’s future (Gurtov 1967, 82). The increasing American interest on the triumph of France in its battle against the Vietminh overlapped with, and embodied a portion of, the growth of the Cold War. Europe stood for the original stadium...

The Child Got Lost at the Crowd

...The Day I Got Lost I was about six years old the day I got lost. We were visiting India on holiday and my mother and I had gone out to shop. I had never seen so many people together at once. There were shopkeepers calling out to us from every corner, and nearly five times as many customers. People kept pushing each other trying to make their way through the crowd. I noticed a little girl about my age standing inside a shop and staring at me through the window. She looked like she wanted to talk. I smiled at her and she stuck her tongue out at me. Angry, I made a face back at her. She did the same. We had been pulling terrible expressions at each other for a while when I finally got tired of it and began to laugh. The girl laughed too...

How We Got Lincoln

...?How We got Lincoln Peter Andrews, in his writing “How we got Lincoln”, talks about the national republican convention held at Chicago in 1860. Abraham Lincoln was a candidate in 1860 elections, though he had critical arguments against it. He was mentioned as an alternative to the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, that is, in place of the New York Senator, William H. Seward. Manifold events happened in late 1859 and early 1860 that gave a boost to Lincoln’s chances in presidency. For example, the selection of Chicago as the location for the Republican convention, which was a decision put forward by the Illinois Republican chairman Norman B. Judd, in order to give Lincoln an advantage of home city. Another thing...

Got on the Wrong Flight

And then I went through security. So far, no big deal. What I didn't notice was that the terminal had changed. Gate 33, which originally was destined for Boston, had been changed.
When I got to the counter I was feeling a bit tired and still not paying attention. Instead of using a check-in machine, the aircrew simply tore off the ticket stub. They waved me through onto the plane. I sat down on an aisle seat and reached into my pocket to pull out my I-pod. I wanted to listen to the new Jack Johnson CD. I turned it up very loud and closed my eyes.
A few hours later I awoke. The plane had just touched down. I disembarked. The first thing I saw was a sign in German. I heard a voice over the loudspeaker also in German. It tu...
