The kite Runner “Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to slay, to win Baba. Was it a fair price? The answer floated to my conscious mind before I could thwart it: he was just a Hazara, wasn’t he?” (Hosseini 32)The narrator at this point is caught between helping his friend and pleasing his father. The narrator chooses to abandon his friend and runs off to show his father the blue kite. This was aimed at gaining his father’s trust and proving his worth. The passage plays an important role in defining Amir’s character.

The long friendship between Hassan and Amir is put to test when Assef rapes Hassan. This event reveals Hassan as a coward as he fails to confront Assef. His priority is family since and does his best to impress Baba. There passage is significant in that it defines the narrators past and plays an important role in defining his future decision making. The anticipated joy is turned into regrets. The narrator will later own live a life full of regrets triggered by his earlier actions.The passage is symbolic in nature.

The two friends represent two different personalities. They represent social classes within the society. The social status of Hassan and his physical appearance is a representative of suffering and social disparity existing in Afghanistan. The action taken by Amir represents personal interests that some time overrides friendship. The crisis at this point represents the delicate state of the country and how personal decisions could prove futile. The symbol nature of Amir in the peace and tranquility experienced in the country is evident as his decision to ignore the desperate call from his friend represents personal choices by members of society that calumniated into crisis.

The choice made by Amir represents wrong choices that by people within his country resulting to conflicts and further regrets.The passage also describes ironic. In that after Amir approaches his father and explains his kite win, he brands him a cowards rather that praise him. He is afraid that Amir is growing up as a coward and may fail to survive. This explains the wrong choice made by Amir by abandoning his Friends. It ironic that he chooses his pursued for success over Hassan helps call. Later own he learns that Hassan is his brother.

The ironic twist of events explained how relatives unknowingly in order to gain political and economic advantages. The narrator contemplates on the events that transpired during the Hassan rape to explore his relationship with his father and friend. The event ironically turns to be the turning point for Amir. The passage is a metaphor as it represents a crisis and defines the parties involved in the crisis. Amir represents ignorance and his coward nature played part in encouraging the rape. The guilty conscience haunts Amir and in the end he decides to compensate his failures by adopting Sohrab (289).

This is accompanied by bodily injury inflicted upon by Assef the same individual who during his childhood raped Hassan. The passage represents the present suffering of Hassan. The passage represents the ignorant state of Amir which will later own play part in defining the future of Amir while he rediscovers himself. The passage represents three faces of an individual.
