The Giver is a fiction movie directed Noyce Phillip and written by M. Mitnick. Its content is derived from the novel written by Lowry Lois produced in 2014. In this review, there will be a comparison and contrast of the same ideas in the book and the movie. This movie is adapted from Lowry’s novel that attracted the readers due to the contents of its message. The actors of the movie “The Giver” portray the pleasure of the initial place of the individuals who initiated it. The movie is has less noise and good graphics that brings emotional feelings and makes it easy to connect with the viewer to bring the real experience and connection. The book and the movie have same ideas that they convey out. In both the book and the film there is pain being experienced by different characters involved. For example, in the film, there was a war that took place and the community went through tough times. After the war, they decided to do away with racial feelings. On the other hand, in the book, there are options on how to make things work for the community especially in decision making by the elders. The book and the film have series of similar events that resulted to the main theme of both the book and the movie. Therefore, in this review, there is no different in the plot or subplot as can be realized when watching and reading the book and the film respectively. In class structure, the movie and the book have a positive impact on students in building the knowledge of literature, hence improvement in academic standard. In addition to this, the book and the movie clearly show some types of leadership that can be copied by the most governments in many nations around the globe. This can be either positive or negative to those who put them into practice. For example, Jonas is nominated to take charge of all memories and provide them when they are needed for use by the community. However, the government has the responsibility to control the use of any written material and films. This is done by different institutions within the government at different levels. Sometimes the contents of some materials may be dangerous to peace or economic stability of the nation. In this case, the content of the book and the film have important information that is helpful to the citizens. Example is showed when the community elders seek the receiver’s advice whenever they needed wisdom to make decisions on various issues within the committee. The occasions that needed wisdom were during population increase and when the pilot always takes off. Therefore, governmental control is recommended. There are different factors that can make a society a perfect or imperfect. In the book and the film, there are a number of scenes that reveals what can bring perfection and imperfection of a society. In Jonas scene, there is a good character being portrayed; he is given the responsibility to take control of the receiver memory. In this situation, it is clearly indicated that in an organized society, it is good to delegate duties to individuals who are specialized in their work for a perfect delivery of service to the community. Elders also supervises Jonas role to ensure that his work is done perfectly every time. This explains the supervisory role that the elders play in the society. In the society, not only perfect things are experienced but also there are things that work contrary to this hence make the society imperfect place. This is seen in Jonas’ dad who had a role of injecting children. He did it in a lethal way without compassion, emotions and love. This is indeed a character that creates fear within the society even though it was his role. The content of this film and the book is important to individual and the world as a whole, the roles played by different characters like Jonas, Gabriel and Jonas’s dad brings a real connection. They make the audience in touch with the book and film. The film actors like Brenton, Cameron, Taylor Holmes and many more; did amazing work to make that audience get the best out their work to have positive impact to the world. The type of leadership portrayed in this film has been experienced in many nations around the globe. For example, in Africa; many leaders who fought for their country’s independence later turned against each other as a result of power wrangling. This later caused many deaths not only in Africa but even some parts of America. This is also the situation that happened to Jonas when he went missing but when the guards were sent to look for him; they said that he has become dangerous to the society. In class, students can also learn how to do most of their work. The elders consulted the giver in many occasions and they supervised Jonas too. This is a clear indication that there is need to consult the teachers and lectures whenever they find something that is beyond their understanding to improve quality in academic performance. In the book and film, there are factors that are portrayed. These include diversity, sameness, color, emotions and feelings, music, age, and the essence of memory. This section illustrates how they have been portrayed both in the book and the film. The rules or principle that guides the society that people live in is referred as sameness in the film and the book. There is a perception that people should behave or be the same to each other. Feelings against individuals are not expected in this case. It therefore shows that the society can control everything that comes at any given time. This is an indication that sameness is a unifying factor and its absence means that Receiver will not exist; this will create fewer burdens of memories to the community. However, in the book, the society used sameness to relieve individuals chosen. When Jonas was appointed to be the receiver; he made plans to change the society even though people had different feelings about him. During this time, he was only twelve years of age. This is indeed shows that age is not hindering factor when it comes to leadership and responsibility. On the other hand, diversity of individuals within the society relies on the weight of the trouble and how it is solved within the community. For example, when Jonas went missing some thought he had become dangerous, in real sense, this was a quick judgment to someone who had the responsibility of the memory. Before producing any film, it is important to consider the best background music to be used. Bad choice of music will create boredom to the audience and the content of the message relayed by the movie will not be taken, hence target of the message will not be achieved. The music used in this film is from different artists, they include Beltrami Marco and Kelly Tori. The music and soundtrack in this film was good and made it have an impact to the targeted audience. The use of music makes it easy for the audience to understand and compare pain and pleasure. Music is also used to show happiness as a reminder. For example, During Christmas songs, Jonas said that even back in his society, there is music too. This brings the relationship between pain and pleasure where pain comes first and happiness later like it happened to Jonas. The ending of the film and the book has a few differences versions. However, they bring a crucial experience that transforms the whole genre. In addition to this, both the film and the book end in a similar style. If I was the director for this film, I would have communicated with the characters to know the requirements to come out a good quality movie. Read More
