September 15, Final Memo Education I am at ISU pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering. Pursuing a degree in Electronic engineering has not happened by chance but rather by choice which got fuelled by my life dreams and aspirations. As a young kid growing up I was always thrilled by the functions of electricity and the components that use it to function. My childhood memories revolve around me disengaging electronic components and trying to rebuild them again. Such memories played a great role in ensuring that I got to pursue Electronic Engineering and become a leading professional in the field.

Accomplishments Before joining ISU for my bachelor’s program, I had managed to garner some achievements in my young career life. Among the achievements I have garnered thus far, two stand out as the most memorable. The first achievement was receiving the ‘Best Intern’ award during my time at ABC electronic company after graduating from high school. This award came after the hard work and drive I put in completing my tasks in a timely manner at the organization to the point where I got recognized by the staff and selected for the award.

This award is of note as I had only interned at the organization for six months!! The second accomplishment was receiving a ‘best science fair project’ under a physics science fair held at my high school. This award helped to reaffirm my belief that I was destined to be great in the field of science. Job Description Before moving over to the US, I worked at a mining company in South Africa—Broadmill Mining. I was tasked as an electrical engineer intern where my responsibilities revolved around developing economic feasibility studies, researching electrical systems at mining sites, and assisting with reporting on the various stages of project development.

My abilities to multi-task, work around schedules, and be flexible were greatly tested and proven during this period. Community Service Individuals and organizations are nothing without the communities they serve in and serve for. It is for this reason that I am always passionate about community service and the overall giving back to society whenever and however possible. I have been lucky to serve in organizations that are cognizant of upholding community service values. As an intern at ABC electronic Company, I got involved with the organization’s ‘building green’ campaign for their community service.

This campaign ensured everyone who worked at the organization would undertake tree planting during the weekends at various communal sites pinpointed by the organization management. This was to assist in reducing carbon emissions in the atmosphere caused through man-made operations. During my stint at Broadmill Mining, the organization asked its employees to engage in building a local school for the surrounding communities located near their mining sites. Employees would participate by offering labour or financial aid toward this project.

I offered both labour and financial assistance that helped to build a school for the community. Writing Experience I would describe my writing experience as an upward learning curve. Before arriving in the US, I had difficulty processing my thoughts to proper written documents. However, undertaking a course in English at ISU has helped to greatly transform my writing skills. I have learned how to construct simple and complex sentences as well as use the right vocabulary and conjunctions.

I believe with further courses in English I will improve immensely as well as my time in the US will be of great benefit to my writing as part of communication with fellow students and course instructors.
