The poem is therefore aptly entitled “Introduction to Poetry” to remind readers that poetry is to be appreciated through reflecting on the manner by which figurative language is used to appeal to the senses. The poem would therefore serve as a guideline which would direct readers, or beginners, to see beyond the words; or go beyond just merely discerning the message of the poem. Poetry is written, ultimately, to be appreciated through the emotional appeal that it could generate for discerning readers.
