Number] Guns Should Be Ban Introduction Possessing firearm has long been a tradition in the United States as the means of protection and hunting or sport. However, the problem started where the use and purpose of possessing firearms changed. There has been an increase in the crime rate and in the fight for the right of owning arms for protection; the gun control policy was introduced. The aim was to reduce the rate of crime in country but rather it gave a rise to a never ending debate. One side of the debate believes that gun control policies violate the right of citizens to bear arms as the second amendment states. However, the other school of thought suggests that gun control policies and legislations are necessary in order to lower the rate of criminal activities using guns. According to the studies the main reason behind most of the casualties in the world is hand guns. The guns should better be banned because they put everyone’s life at risk and most of the guns in the homes are the reasons of unnecessary shooting and nothing else. In one of the study of the shootings, it was revealed that in almost two third cases the shooter got the gun from someone close, a relative or a friend. Keeping a gun is not protecting people but on the other hand it is the reason behind the increasing homicides. Gun Ban – Yes or No? The major aspects of this debate are the sociological, legal and ethical considerations that apply differently to the discussion. The social scientists have their own point of view and according to them the gun control policies are an effective measure taken to reduce the criminal activities that take place with the use of handguns. These regulations are very important for the social security and the wellbeing of the society. From the ethical pint of view, the citizens should be given the right to protect themselves and thus they should be allowed to bear arms. They believe that of the citizens are given the right to protect themselves; there would be no one to be harmed by criminals. However, the most important aspect to this debate is the legal point of view under which the second amendment of the US constitution is interpreted. The constitution says that every person has the right to bear arms. The psychological reason behind keeping a gun in the homes would be the feeling of insecurity and the need to believe oneself as powerful (Diener and Kerber, 1979). Guns are being used in most of the mass shootings. And that is the major reason why guns should be banned (Vernick 84). Guns should be Banned – Major Arguments to Support the Stance Studies show that the presence of guns is likely to increase the crime rate in the educational areas like schools and colleges. There are so many cases that are being observed about on campus shootings by a teacher or some student due to may be a bad day or high on stress level. There are times when conflicts occur between students and if they will be or someone among will be having a gun then the situation will most likely be end in shooting. According to studies about 1 million students bring guns to their schools which is highly dangerous because nowadays there have been many suicidal incidents of teen agers observed. This trend will create a terrifying situation for the kids in the future. It is just not the educational places that are being victimized but the public places like movie theatres and parks are even turning into a dangerous place to hang around (Porter 54). People and the government have to understand that a gun defence is the worst form of defence because there is not a single good result of it instead it creates panic and chaos which ultimately results in casualties. There is a continuous debate going on not only on the public forums but in the congress as well whether to ban guns or not. The allowance of guns in the public places was a pretty bad idea from its starting. And now it is high time to eliminate all those destructive weapons from the society and free the people from the fear of getting shot anytime. The elimination is not going to be a sudden process instead it is going to take quite a time frame. The banning of guns would not completely abolish guns from the society as illegal means are there to serve the criminals but at least it would definitely decrease the number of guns prevailing around the common people. We can simply compare the results of Washington DC’s murder rate with Indianapolis’ to understand the benefits of banning guns because Washington DC has a strict policy of gun control thus have a murder rate of 6 whereas Indianapolis has a rate of 9 because of no control over guns. As there are no policies or actions being taken to control these frightful situations, some of the companies have started themselves to restrict the people from using guns or bringing them into their building for example, Starbucks do not allow customers who bring guns to their coffee shops and they explain it as a company policy for the safety of their customers (Norwood ch13). Such measures are the sign of positive trend in the society (Norwood 14). There are people who hide their arguments over the “we feel secure” statement. They are also not justified here because it is like a continuous cycle that a person keeps a gun to protect himself because someone else have also got the gun too and it will not end anywhere. The possession of gun never leads the situation to a better scenario but it brings out the worst one, for instance, if one witnesses an intruder in his home then he can be harmed and stooped by some gas spray but if he would be shot by a gun then he will definitely come for revenge or f not him then might be his immediate family will. People in US are ranked higher for psychological disorders and problems. Many citizens go through worst situations thus ending up in frustration and depression. In such a situation, if a person has lost control over his nerves and started shooting people randomly then the people who posses’ guns would be going fearful and they might end up in random shootings too, out of their fear. How can such a situation be beneficial for any one? A gun’s main function is to kill or injure a person, so how in what way can it protect anyone on this earth? The main purpose of a gun is to kill and nothing else. If we check the statistics then we would come to know that there have been only 20 terror deaths in US after 9/11 and the number of deaths caused by the private guns is reported to be 346,000. This past record clearly shows the difference and conveys a simple message that guns should be banned because they just cannot protect anyone. Every year about 1 million Americans are victimized by the guns. The number is constantly increasing with almost 90% of the Americans possessing guns. There have been a number of hunters that have started arguing against the banning of hunting weapons as they are good for hunting but in my opinion why would a hunter would want to explode his prey with a rifle like AK 47 and instead of shooting it with a normal gun. Owning a weapon under the name of law is too impractical and immature. There are many arguments over banning guns like the ban on guns would only be applicable on the normal citizens of the country and will not be adapted by the psychopaths, instead the ban will make things easier for them. But we have to understand that there is no perfect thing in the world and every society lives under certain flaws and we should better visualize the positive side effects of banning te guns instead of negative ones. Conclusion Hence, the entire discussion could be sum up with the conclusion that it is critically important not only to ban the guns but the rifles and magazines too that are being used in the name of hunting and thus becomes the killing weapon of several innocent people because publicizing guns is not only affecting the adults of the society but children and teenagers are also the ones who are suffering in a direct or may be an indirect way. To make this society a better place, the guns should definitely be banned. The citizens and the political parties should support the government and join hands in order to reduce the number of criminal activities taking place with the use of handguns; in return the government should loosen their policies and eliminate elitism from the policies. ‎ Works Cited Norwood, Beverly.
