Introductory paragraph In the book, The Farming of Bones, written by the known Edwidge Danticat’s, is an interesting story about how two Haitians, Amabelle and Sebastien, her lover, overcame the massacre that occurred in 1937 in Dominican Republic. The Haiti people were poor and opted to cross over to Dominican Republic to find jobs as it was richer than them. In 1937, some hostility erupted between the two country men and resulted in massive massacre of Haitians who had gone to Dominican Republic.

The Farming of Bones entails a story about Amabelle who had earlier been engaged to Sebastien, before the start of the massacre. Sebastien got separated from her as he went to fight as a soldier. Amabelle was left to struggle in her path of returning to Haiti as it was filled by meditations of love, life and survival (Edwidge 23). Undergoing intense torment of what could have happened to Sebastien after receiving no news about what had conspired, she decides to get it through other people, and later discovers they had been turned into hateful people.

In the end, she decides to remember those whom she had loved and carry their stories and believes famous people never die. In the book, The Farming of Bones, it is clear that Amabelle is survivor and a determined person based on her past struggles through life, love and death. Work CitedEdwidge, Danticat.
