It was an event that occurred during a kite flying tournament that changed his perspective of life, it was a moment when he decided not to confront the aggressors to protect Hassan, the one person who would gladly give up his life for him. His inability to take action led to his subsequent reactions that resulted from his guilt like lies and betrayal. Later on Amir and his father settled in America which he views as leaving behind his past forever. Although Amir starts a new life in America, his past gets revived when he is forced to return to Afghanistan to save Sohrab, the son of Hassan. He takes this as a chance to redeem his past.
The story is about relationships the most important among them being the friendship shared by Amir and Hassan. This aggravates his relation with Hassan as he starts taunting him and mocking him for his ignorance. All his life Amir showed his aggressive nature only to Hassan as the latter always defended him. All the childhood pranks that they played on others mostly initiated by Amir; Hassan almost always took the blame on himself. All these factors played a role in his ultimate act of betrayal when Hassan was raped. Amir became silent witness of the event hiding behind a wall. His decision not to get involved with the aggressors came from his feeling that Hassan was merely a servant and sacrifice of Hassan was necessary to win his father’s love and admiration. This event essentially ends his childhood. The feeling of guilt remained with him although ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
