Increasing population and their misuse have aggravated the problem. Man considers nature as the contestant and does not share an intimate relationship. The mindless pursuit of materialistic values has changed the perception of man towards nature. Harmony between humankind and nature is lost. The issues related to water and energy conservation have attained serious dimensions. It is the bounden duty of the present generation to leave Planet Earth in a better condition as compared to the condition in which it was received.

Global warming is not a serious issue according to Bjorn Lomborg. He gives convincing arguments. Planet Earth is not in danger, “Cool It,” he argues, “Global warming has been portrayed recently as the greatest crisis in the history of civilization. As of this writing, stories on it occupy the front pages of Time and Newsweek and are featured prominently in countless media around the world.” (Preface, ix) He advises the print and electronic media to desist from creating a fear psychology.

He also tells the community leaders and scientists to tone down their attacks and argues, “Statements about the strong, ominous, and immediate consequences of global warming are often widely exaggerated, and this is unlikely to result in good policy.”(p. 8) He agrees that global warming is one of the serious issues confronting humankind, but it is an issue that is surmountable. He criticizes those who predict “that an ice-free Antarctica is likely to be the world’s only habitable continent by the end of this century if global warming remains unchecked.”(p.13) According to him such a conclusion is unwarranted.

Lomborg’s arguments have provided a new dimension to the issue. He is firm about his conviction that global warming will not overpower humankind.
