Shooting an elephant Question One George Orwell is a prolific who uses captures his stories from a descriptive point ofview. With description, the reader is driven into a clearer understanding of each and every episode and happening. The most significance of describing events is that the writer assumes the position of a firsthand person who takes his time to utilize available resources to spin his fictitious story. By so doing, the author expresses confidence in bringing to book all the events that were experienced at a certain historic time.

It is worth acknowledging that the past is best recurred through written literature and such eventful writings put down by Orwell are a great reflection of the experience he gains. Not only are they fundamental to him, but through his shared thoughts, the world is made aware of the effects of imperialism; the misfortune that inferior human races are made to go through against their own will, the slow death that faces innocent civilians who are made to bow to their colonial masters all in the name of political imprisonment and consequent incarceration.

This is evident when the author recurs that “…but in reality, I was only an absurd puppet pushed to and fro by the will of those yellow faces behind…” critically analyzing this quote brings out the significance of the dying elephant in compiling of Orwell’s thesis. The elephant is used as an eye opener to enlighten the sub divisional police of the plight of the oppressed civilians.Question TwoAll along the officer is being driven by emotions and a subconscious mind which turns him into a puppet of his own self.

Whereas he is subtle that the elephant has cooled down its temper, he is unsure of what step to take. He is more concerned with what the natives will have to say behind his back. In addition, the author is unsure of the impression he would create on the faces of the two thousand people behind his back. Though his motive was not to kill the elephant because it will be a big loss to the owner, he is driven by the unconscious thought of being a super hero. The author is more focused on portraying dominance over his subjects and that deters him from taking a second thought on shooting the elephant.

That is the same way the colonial masters impose imperialism to unsuspecting police officers by turning them into their puppets.Question ThreeAt first the author is content about his job. He fails to realize that he is a puppet being manipulated by the European government. His eyes are misted and his heart is too roughed up to understand the feelings of the Burma’s. It is only after disparagement that he discovers how hated the imperialists are. In writing “Shooting and elephant”, Orwell provides a detailed description of events and interrupts where necessary to make the audience or readers understand his thoughts.

He makes his prose writing entertaining by infiltrating it with his thoughts on imperialism. He further uses a patronizing tone to bring out the bottlenecks of imperialism and how it is demeaning to the natives. Even though he has a big post as a police officer, he is hated the natives which leaves him in a state of dilemma. He is first unsure of what to expect from the natives. To some extent he is patriotic to his mother country but his instincts hate the oppression that the natives are made to go through.

For instance, he hates how the Burmese are oppressed. Question FourAt times, life is so unfair because the political elites only make the rules but the enforcers are the ones that face all the objection and rejection. It is a fact that the masterminds of imperialism force other people; police officers and army, into inflicting pain on innocent people. He states that “I had already made up my mind that imperialism was an evil thing…” (Orwell, p 1) The Burmese are put under the yoke of tyranny by police officers who are only implementing order.

The end result is that they are hated and despised for implementing duties and responsibilities as allocated to them by their masters.
