The writing, sending and receiving text messages occurs many times throughout the day. A generation ago, much of the communication that is texted between family and friends today would have been conveyed using a telephone. Writing is more frequent, but proper grammar in a text is considered optional. The way students write today in their most frequent forms of communication does not require proper grammar so grammar seems unnecessary to them.
The second reason students do not view grammar favorable is because it is dull stuff to learn. Grammar instruction is notoriously time consuming, requiring the memorization of many rules that have to rhyme or reason. Huddleston states that it is important to distinguish two levels at which our grammatical categories need to be defined. They are: the language particular level and the general level. Both of them help to learn a language and distinguish the difference either between various parts of speech or languages.
It therefore becomes possible to recognize shapes, colors, location and to differentiate objects from their backgrounds. Animals have the ability to distinguish objects, which becomes possible from their reactions to applications of stimuli. However, the nature of such perceptions relate to only surmising.
There are several grammar claims that should be called grammar myths. There is a myth about split infinitives. You might have heard people saying that you are not supposed to use split infinitives. It is one of the many grammar myths that have been contradicting people for quite a long time.
Descriptive grammar, the first of these types, is often looked down upon by people who believe that only through prescriptive grammar, or grammar based on textbooks and decided-upon rules, can students be taught to use the English language properly. However, these two types of grammar, although they are usually set up opposite to one another, can both be used together to help teach students to think critically, speak or write well, and communicate clearly.
The four effector modes in RAM are the self-concept/ group identity, interdependence, role function and physiologic/ physical. Until this class I had not appreciated the various forms of writing style and as such did not master grammar usage. Because my work is somewhat reactionary, writing was always a prerequisite to all of my course work and I always lost points for using improper grammar.
