Monsanto: The Corporation Poisoning Our Environment - Essay Example

Having a strong desire for more wealth, possessions, and power more than a person’s needs can lead to a person doing things that will harm other people just to satisfy that desire. Being greedy can lead a person to do actions such as sacrificing the safety, happiness, and rights of other people for the sake of satisfying one’s self.

Monsanto is a big business that can be found all around the world. It is a corporation that has existed in the year 1901. A 42-year-old, John F. Queeny, whose job is to purchase under the Drug Company of the Meyer brothers started this business. The name was taken from the last name of his wife for the reason that the last name of his wife is well known to other people especially to the Germans that are responsible for supplying goods. During that time, they named their companies using their last names.

They had been discovering and manufacturing products in connection to the farms and cattle for fast production that leads them to higher profits. From the very beginning, Monsanto Corporation has been claiming that its main purpose is for the sake of the farmers and for the environment. Their main goal is to help the farmers in every possible way in order to produce more crops. One of their goals is to use as little of the resources such as the soil and water as possible so that these resources will last a long time.

But the corporation is the number one violator of their goals. They did the opposite for the sake of higher profits. They torture the farmers for the sake of profits by using them to court and asking them for large amounts of money. The amount of money that both parties agreed to pay is not revealed to the public which means that the corporation is only interested in what they can get to the farmers. An example of a situation where they sue some farmers is, a farm that has another neighbor farm that is using Monsanto seeds and because of wind transfer, it accidentally transferred to the other farm.

If it was proven that the farm has Monsanto seeds then they sue them in court. Another goal they had been claiming is in connection to the environment. Many scientists, health organizations, and even mass media had proven that some of their products are dangerous to human health and to the environment. Scientists did an experiment by using their products to their medium, rats, and it was proven that their products can damage the kidney, liver, heart, spleen, and adrenal glands. Their product used in cattle has proven also to cause cancer.

From the very beginning until now, Monsanto are destroying many lives and the environment because of greediness and the love of money. They have destroyed the soil, water, and our supply in order to keep prices down and ensure the continuity of their rise. Despite these effects, Monsanto was never charged which means that this corporation is a powerful and big company. It is well understood that this corporation is having a competition with big companies and do these evil things but the way they compete is without honor, respect, value for life, and basic decency for all living things.

These are the things that are not acceptable in society. One task of Monsanto Corporation that they had been claiming is to provide the important needs of today while conserving the world for tomorrow. The term ‘the world’ is referring to the environment. If this is the task and goal of this corporation, then they need to act on it. If they had tried to manufacture these products then I believe that they can change and produce products that are not dangerous to humans’ health and to the environment.

Many corporations are famous and popular because of their products but their products aren’t dangerous to everyone. Safety is the number one goal that Monsanto Corporation needs to consider. It is sweeter to receive praises from consumers and from other people if you know that you are not stamping on someone and considering your environment's preservation. In a corporation whether big or small, the safety of the people and the environment should be the first things to consider. Don’t be swallowed by greediness because in the end many will suffer maybe not our generation now but for the next generations to come.
