? Analysis Paper Analysis Paper Synthesis of Attributes The changing tides in the employment sector in the new economy is both a threat and a promise to potential workers that are still hanging around for employment or those soon graduating. This claim is attributed to the many aspects that currently determine the job market absorption rates. The current job market is now a complete opposite of what it used to be some years back, and any potential or current job seekers need to stay on the alert of continually increasing requirements and qualifications. The requirements needed back then have revolutionized into a whole new set of needs that many have ignored given their conservative perception that only reality of the older job market held. This paper shall identify attributes of workers who are likeliest to succeed in the new economy and synthesize the same into detailed explanations. In the past 25 years, worker skills or level of education were a favorable recipe that would earn any bearer of these attributes better and more stable jobs, amounting to job security. However, the trend in the current economy has been manipulated by the emphasized need to lower production expenses and increase profit margins. This aspect has caused many jobs to be offshored to countries such as China and India where the production expenses for jobs pertaining impersonal services are lower. Reportedly, only workers in possession of skills pertaining personal services such as barbers, medical practitioners, and counsellors can have some level of security. This calls for workers to develop leadership and innovative attributes that will facilitate the possession of innovative skills that cannot afford offshoring. According to Carnevale, Cheah, and Strohl (as cited in Behrens &Rosen, 2013, p. 179), thanks to the U.S Department of Labor, data provided projecting employment projections in every ten years could go a long way in helping prospective workers in decision making towards a choice of career path. Contrary to the attributes discussed first, possession of higher levels of education is a key attribute to ensure success in the new economy. At the time of the research reporting provided by Carnevale et al. (as cited in Behrens &Rosen, 2013, p. 180), the unemployment rates of Bachelor’s degree holders stand at 8.9%, while those of high school leavers and high school dropouts stood at 22.9% and 31.5% respectively. The risks that high school dropouts or lower educated job seekers faced included the grabbing of job opportunities that did not require high skillsets and education by more educated individuals. An emphasis is, however, put on the career path chosen as Carnevale et al. states: (as cited in Behrens &Rosen, 2013, p. 180) “not all college degrees are created equally.” The existing data indicated higher absorption rates in some career fields with specific college degrees that other fields. For instance, employment rates in the fields that required Computer Science, Education, and Healthcare competency had a higher absorption that greatly reduced the unemployment rates that then stood at an average of 5.4% compared to absorption in Architecture that left 13.9% unemployment rate. These differences arose due to the dynamic status that various job markets faced due to a variety of aspects such as collapse of housing construction in Architecture. Studies also revealed a higher absorption rate for individuals that contained graduate degrees than those with Bachelor’s (BA). However, the majoring specific was highly relevant as some undergraduate degrees like Computer Science seemed to perform way better than any Graduate degree. Successful workers in the new economy will have to possess a competitive and creative attribute of being creators and not servers. Kessler (as cited in Behrens &Rosen, 2013, p. 203), is quick to dismiss the existence of the two classical types of workers; white-collar and blue-collar workers, and instead, replaces these categories by two types of workers: creators and servers. Creators are the type of workers that drove productivity by performing technical tasks such as programming, drug creation, and chip designing. On the other hand, servers were the type of workers that provided services to the creators by offering supportive services such as food providence, legal advising, and home building. The danger of being in the position of servers is threatened by the rapid increase of using technology and machines to eliminate the need for servers. Due to the work description of servers entailing routine, cognitive, and manual tasks that could be emulated by a programmed algorithm following explicit rules, the imminent danger of many servers losing their employment in the new economy is rife. Despite the eventual fading of the need for servers, they are still an important part of the new economy as the services they provide will take some time before being fully emulated by robots. Hard work and commitment are must attributes of any hopeful job seeker in the new economy. During the early periods of job seeking, individuals are highly likely to accept any job offering despite the irrelevance of skill application of good pay. However, Rampell (as cited in Behrens &Rosen, 2013, p. 177), advices a quick change of jobs in case of any worker is found in such a scenario. The danger of staying in such jobs that do not utilize a workers initial knowledge and skills for more than five years may carry along the same curse that may stagnate a worker’s growth and probably destroy such a worker’s success in the new economy. Advice is particular to young workers in such a situation to ensure that they move before the daunting responsibilities of family set in as these may halt the worker’s active pattern of moving jobs. Given the current economic times, there is no escape route for any aspiring employee in considering some key aspects while job seeking. This is due to the metamorphosis that the job market has undergone due to the change of needs before employers absorb any new workers. For any worker to be successful in the new economy, certain attributes need to be exhibited: innovativeness, competitiveness, possession of high academic papers, possession of competitive degrees, possession of skills to be creators and not servers, and hard work. Combined, these attributes could be all that an aspiring worker would need to overturn the current state of unemployment into success in the desired career field. Self-Analysis of Key Attributes An analysis of the reference material with regard to the attributes that one needs to possess in order to achieve success in the new economy was a wakeup call that propelled self-rhetoric questions on my readiness to succeed. College is the ultimate level of education that anyone aiming at securing a good job and being successful in the economy aims, I included. For that purpose, I did a self-analysis to help me discover the extent to which I possess the attributes discussed, and to what level my intended course of study will prepare me to develop the discussed attributes. This paper shall give a report on the results after the self-analysis carried out, giving a perception of my readiness to tackle the employment puzzle in the new economy in the near future. The level of innovation that tends to be within me since I was a child seems to have carried along with me. A justification for this are the diverse entrepreneurial activities I have partaken and other creative activities I have taken part in with my peers despite their significance. Innovation being a key attribute that one needs to possess in order to achieve success, I believe that I have sufficient levels of the same to warrant me a good position in the job market in the near future. The ability I have to come up with innovative solutions to quite challenging feats of assignments and tasks has over time proven my eligibility of possessing a fair part of innovativeness. Competition has been a core part of me since time immemorial. As a student in my junior school, I was an extrovert that aired my explicit desire to form a competition out of many activities that we performed. Eventually, despite the results of the ensued competitions, there was a lot of pleasure that was derived from simply putting myself against others’ abilities and trying to beat them. The spirit of competition never faded as this is this manifested in most activities I partake in college and there is always that desire to ultimately claim the best spot. This attribute that entails competition is an important attribute according to Carnevale et al. (as cited in Behrens &Rosen, 2013, p. 180) that could almost guarantee one success as a worker in the new economy. Combined with innovation, the attribute of competitiveness would offset me to be a creator instead of the fast fading job opportunities performed by servers as Kessler (as cited in Behrens &Rosen, 2013, p. 203) states. Currently, my level of education denies me the extent of attributes concerning possession of high academic papers as this process is still ongoing. However, there are many justifications that automatically qualify my course as a preferable and competitive degree. This warrants me a good position in quickly getting a job as the employment projections in this career path by the US Department of Labor support this fact by an increasing employment percentage margin each year. My current intended course of study, that is a major in Information Technology, is bound to develop these attributes further. On innovation, the course would demand a proper grip on current technological trends and existing solutions that will require analysis of loopholes and the proposal of newer solutions. This tasks require an innovative mind and given the challenges involved, my ability to boost my innovative mind will increase in folds, giving me a better chance in the oncoming job market given that innovation is a key attribute for being successful in the new economy. There is no doubt that enrollment of the course will entail a competitive crop of others like me. Through an integration of competitive and alike minds, the attribute of competitiveness is bound to be improved. Competition in my intended course would entail various aspects including and not limited to academics, sports, games, and club activities. With competitiveness being a key recipe component of any projected successful worker in the new economy, my intended course is likely to equip me with a tremendous upper hand against fellow job seekers and in the bid to be a creator rather than a server. Finally, I believe that my intended course of study will equip me with a competitive, high academic degree that will guarantee me a good position in the employment sector. Computer courses were rated by the US Department of Labor as high absorption in the employment scene, some with even better absorption than most graduate degrees. This opinion is supported by data from various sources including the US Department of Labor which put projections of the intended course careers at an all-time high. Currently, data also indicates relatively low admissions in the course thus assuring me and any other prospective career path chooser of wide employment opportunities that will ensure success in the new economy. Making a follow up on required attributes, statistical data, and available opportunities within a given career path are all significant aspects that anyone contemplating success as a worker in the new economy should figure out. The times when individuals would gamble with poor qualifications and poorly exhibited attributes to get a well-paying job are long gone, and instead, any job opportunity advertised entails a vigorous process to ensure only the best are picked. Given my self-analysis, I am confident that I am well equipped to have a successful stint as a worker in the new economy in the near future. Reference Behrens, L., & Rosen, J. L. (2013).
