On the contrast, Gabriel not being so strong in his beliefs and opinions compares as less influence than Winterbourne.

Gabriel’s nervousness on patriotism and lack of strong opinions with lesser reasoning only exclaiming of being ‘sick of his country’ shows the character being less stalwart. Winterbourne on the other hand is shown as unflinching and more tenacious by the way he defends Daisy’s courtship of her courier as being ‘uncultivated’ in response to his aunt’s perceptions of her behavior. The two characters contrast in their personalities one being confused while the other self-assured, perhaps changing the way they are affected by their epiphanies.

Where being wealthy and connecting with rich peers is another of the similarities, their routes to attaining their fortunes differ.
