High-Tech tools Teens in the modern world want to change the world and make it a better place to live in; they want to contribute for peace, improve public reforms, economic reforms, and any other essential aspect of the society. According to them, the best way to do so is through the use of modern technologies. Before the invention of computers, they spent their time using typewriters and a majority of the mistakes made were erased using liquids. This gave them headaches, where they had to redo their work severally, and in some cases they ended up crumpling the documents and throwing them into litter baskets due to the several mistakes (Braddock 2). The uses of high tech tools have changed such situations. On the other hand, these high technology tools have created various presentations that have negative impacts on teens. For a long time, the use of high technology tools have created a controversy since many people believe that high tech tools are beneficial to human beings; while other people believe that they have several negative impacts. Therefore, this paper shall seek to explain some of the negative impacts brought about by high technology tools. It will also explore how these negative effects can be minimized. Naturally there are some people who not believe that high technology tools have negative impacts on teens. This is attributed to the fact that high technological tools have made life easier, as well as improved the lives of human beings. For instance, it has improved the manner in which people communicate with one another. From mobile phones to social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter have improved the interaction and communication between people. Additionally, an individual can book for accommodation in a hotel without necessarily going there. All these are ascribed to high technology tools. Most people acknowledge the significance of high technology tools in their efforts to improve human live; thus, they strongly oppose the fact that high technology tools affect the teens negatively. However, there are several instances that high technology tools have been used to destroy lives, instead of improving them. For instance, some terrorists use mobile phones to trigger bombs. This gives me a reason to make a stand that high technology tools also impacts negatively on teens. While discussing the negative effects of high technology tools on the teens, we will begin with issues that are related to the use of mobile phones. The rate at which young people have adopted the use of mobile phones in various parts of the world is extremely impressive. However, the uses of mobile phones have been realized to cause certain issues of concern. For instance, some people hide behind this technology to save themselves from emotionally stressing actions such as ending relationships (Campbell 2). Sociologists have argued that teens prefer to send text messages, instead of making calls when talking about awkward or emotionally stressing situations that can impact on their capacity to interact amongst themselves. Bullying is one of the negative impacts of using mobile phones, especially cyber bullying. The teens create these phenomena by texting when they cannot express the same sentiments face-to-face (Campbell 4). These will in the end lead to increased anxiety, depression, psychosomatic symptoms, worst still even suicide. The consequence of this issue is yet to be investigated but it is said that cyber bullying has a great impact compared to face-to-face bullying. When the abuse is done verbally, the victim might not be in a position to remember the exact words used, but when text messages are sent to the victim; they have a collection of the abuses and can read them several times. These could turn to be more concrete and seem real compared to the spoken words. Mobile phone use has also been found to be problematic in schools. One main trouble caused by use of mobile phones in schools revolves around the way students use them to rely on their parents when solving school-related school (Ramli 646). For instance, teenagers forgetting their sports uniform at home and calling their parents to ring their teachers to persuade them to permit them to participate without the attire. Students also use the same high technology tool not only to communicate to their fellows during class time, but also to cheat during examinations. This form of exam cheating is sophisticated and extremely difficult to detect. The other high tech tools that have great negative impact on the teenagers is the internet. The impact of this technology is double edged. Among the most discussed negative aspect that is common is internet addiction. Teenagers are extremely addicted to the internet to the extent that they have disassociated themselves to the face to face realities of life. Many teenagers who are addicted to the internet have faced drastic changes in their lifestyle. They spend lots of time online, and this is detrimental to them. There is also the effect of bad influence from the online correspondence. Here, the young ones become exposed to bad and destructive ideas through online communications (Ahn 1433). There are possibilities of teenagers befriending wrong people through this technology. There is also bad influence through immoral, illegal, criminal and other inappropriate contents that come with high tech tools. Since the internet is a hard system to control, it is easier for the young ones to access materials and information that may end up destroying them. Some information available in the internet may cause fear or any other psychological effects if they are viewed repeatedly. In as much as this technology has received various praises due to its ability to make news and other educational materials available; it has also faced criticism for the dissemination of pornography, defamatory statements, hate speech, and other materials that some groups or countries may find undesirable (Ahn 1435). It has also led to lack of the face-to-face interaction, and this is detrimental to the development of communication. It also creates inadequacy in the supplemented devices such as demands for complexity levels, emotions, and care in the communicative approach. With the continued exposure to the high technology tools, there will be an increase in the number of negative impacts. The list might be endless; however, the society is under pressure to fight these ethical and social problems that are caused by high technology tools (Braddock 6). In as much as it might be difficult to stop a child from eating junk food while watching television; we should also find effective ways of utilizing the advantages that are created by high technology tools. In this way, the negative impacts of high technology tools would be minimized. Works Cited Ahn, June. "Journal of the American Society for Information and Technology."
