My relationships with family and friends can be enhanced through learning new communication techniques. I have had many experiences with communication on an organizational level, particularly when I was the art department chairman of the student union at my Chinese high school. This role entailed coordinating between different student union members to make sure that objectives were being met and also regular updates and meetings were held. Initially I struggled to effectively communicate the same message to each member of the student union.
As a result, there were a couple of occasions where student union members did not turn up because either the message had not made it through to them or they misunderstood what I had told them. The greatest lesson that I learned from this was to simplify my communication because often I can include irrelevant information that takes away from the main message. I like to be thorough so that I know exactly what I need to do, but this can confuse other people who prefer information to be delivered to them in a simple matter.
The way I fixed the problem was by only attributing information to the student union members who were affected by it in some way. . h I was a little overwhelmed at first due to the culture and language barriers, I attempted to add to my communication experiences in any way possible. When I attended my American high school, I stayed with a family that made me feel like one of their own. Every weekend I would travel with my host mother and visit some older people who lived in a nursing home. Because I was still very new to America, this was a great chance for me to improve my listening capabilities.
Old people like to talk to someone because they often feel lonely, and I acted as a shoulder for them to lean on. I heard many interesting stories that spanned decades, but most importantly I learned how to listen, observe, and then ask appropriate questions. During my high school years, I was unsure about which path to take for college because there were so many options available to me. Many of my peers chose majors that they had a strong interest in; however, I settled upon communication because I believe that it will provide me with the best foundation from which to build a lifelong career.
Communication majors are often overlooked because they don’t seem to fit any box, but I believe that with the growing influence of technology, communication skills will become of great importance in the workplace. Prompt 2 Two of my greatest traits would be my hard work ethic and also my ability to act independently when required. I have always held determination and dedication in high regard, and I strive to apply these characteristics in every area of my life. This can be witnessed most of all through my academic achievements.
I always feel great pride at having my academic abilities recognized, although I never attempt to receive external praise or recognition. The greatest compliment comes from the results
