From infancy, parents begin teaching their children the basics of life, such as communication, learning to walk, differentiating between right and wrong, and the consequences for each. They are taught virtues and values that they should uphold and use. They are taught about how tradition and culture pass from generation to generation, and how to uphold such. With time, children reach adolescence, early adulthood and the middle adulthood. Parents who prepare their children well get the satisfaction of seeing their children becoming successful.
Some children do not grow up to be successful. This may result from too much protection from the parents. Morinaga feels that parents make mistakes in raising their children by protecting them too much. However, it is a parents’ job to teach and nurture a child and there are times when a child needs to suffer too. Parents should protect their children and sometimes parents should not protect their children (Morinaga, 77). Overprotective parents do not want to see their children unhappy. For children to grow up being confident and responsible, they should be allowed to try out new things. They may be defeated or even fail at their quest, but it is through this safe failure that they become independent and reliable. They should be allowed to handle certain situations without the help of parents or guardians.

When allowing children to do such things, questions that should be asked at the end of it all are like, can this child be able to handle this situation by his own, and safely? Not allowing a child to try out something new just so that a parent can assure their safety can be viewed as a selfish act. It is selfish on the part of parents because they do not want to let their children learn from experience.
Experience is the best teacher, and children experiencing life by trying out new things should not worry parents. Being reliable parents is what is required, not interruptive. Some parents take children to be what they are; young and playful. Engaging children in
