It is a realization that made it clear how important it is to sow the seeds well and water them regularly to see the seed sprout and later grow into a tree that would be a support to others, bear the fruits of hard labour and focused effort, provide shadow and relief to people and stand tall amongst others. Ten years sped past in an instant and it all seems like I am back to my home where I belong, where I spent my goring up years and rigorous construction of the intellectual fortress on which I stand now.
The research and study that I did here under the vision and leadership of my teacher, mentors and project guides were the bibles which I still follow. It gives me a sense of immense pride to refer to my university, Temple University which has been a channel, a medium, a ‘temple’ in the true sense for my intellectual growth and all-around development. There have been several forums, platforms and communities where I have sought the opportunity to emphasise the important role of one’s school or college that stands as the sanctified house of knowledge, a workshop where the mind is moulded, the character is built and the individual is carved out in its best version, strong, powerful, individualistic and unique.
Today this opportunity to reiterate the experiences I had in hindsight after leaving the portals of this great institution, further reinforces the belief and the strong evidence of the crucial role an institution of education plays in the entire life of an individual. My years of education spent here have not only had its impression and effects on my professional life, but my social and personal as well. I believe all spheres of life are connected and the wholesomeness one can attain through his association with an institute of learning, especially with an institute of the calibre of Temple University, is unparalleled.
Speaking of giving back to society and to the people who have helped me walk on the path of attaining intellectual freedom, subject knowledge and creative expertise in my field of Biochemistry, I wish to be an instrument of the propagation of this feeling of gratitude, respect and reverence for one’s alma mater. The ten years spent after my academic phase was the harvesting of the crops planted and the seeds sowed during those vital years. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the departmental heads of Temple University under whose farsighted leadership I took initiatives that had far-reaching consequences benefiting me even to this day.
I am thankful to all my professors and lecturers who helped me grasp fundamentals and took the pain of leading me in the right direction in terms of getting my concepts straight and taking ‘The Big Leap’ forward from just knowledge to ‘Knowledge Applied’. It indeed is a great feeling to reflect on the year when I got selected for a course in Biochemistry at this prestigious university and to be associated with the staff, management and chiefs of this institution.
