His wife urges him not to go alone because she knew that something suspicious was going on but he wanted to discover the truth even though he feared his own actions. Analysis of Young Goodman Brown
Hawthorne weaves a narrative which is half fantasy and half reality. A dreamlike quality pervades the entire narrative, and the reader is left wondering whether the hero succumbed to his evil instincts or drew back at the last minute. Whatever be the interpretation, the author leaves us with no doubt that the protagonist’s experience in the forest, whether dream or reality, unarguably alters his life and personality.
