? RHETORICAL AWARENESS (Your teacher’s due 1 Rhetoric Rhetoric is mainly the art of discovering the available means of persuasion. In other words its means various resources which one shares with each other. It affects various fields i.e. ethical, emotions, practical and intellectual. It leads to effective communication. So in conclusion, it can be said that it is a process through which one tries to communicate something to the other person effectively. Rhetoric has played a major role in western tradition. In relation to rhetorical analysis, usage of rhetorical concepts is essential such as logos, ethos, mediation etc. this is mainly done to identify the social functions that are related to the object of the study. When it is related to any disclosure such as a poem, a speech, a joke or newspaper article, then the specific aim of article is not just to support the claim or makes arguments in relation to it, but it also involves identifying the semiotic strategies which should be employed by the speaker in order to accomplish persuasive goals. 1.2 Importance of rhetorical awareness Different fields have different writing conventions. Rhetorical situation mainly refers to primary features of any college writing situation. While facing any rhetorical situation in college it is imperative to have awareness on its various factors such as purpose for which one is writing, the audience for which one is writing to, type of text one is writing, the person one takes in his writing and social context of the situation. Rhetorical awareness is important in order to communicate effectively with the other person. One should be efficient enough to deal with all kind of situations i.e. either to communicate in images, sounds, words or numbers. Student writers should be able to deal with all these situations. Effective writing means making various choices. Each purpose given to students increases their awareness in relation to rhetorical. In it students mainly take responsibility of their ideas from which they try to be writers. These ideas are mainly occurred through independent research and one’s own perceptions. This provides students an opportunity to work at their own discourse, discover challenging things and can express their own ideas, while communicating on a particular purpose. This makes their ideas compelling and convincing to others. Therefore, in order to effectively communicate with other person one should be aware of all rhetorical techniques and writing. 1.3 Effect Rhetorical awareness can lead to effective communication and message can be easily transfers to the respective audience. It creates a positive attitude among student writers. This will help students not only to communicate in words, but they will be able to use sounds, numbers and diagrams as well to convey their message once they are aware of rhetorical. Its awareness helps students not only to gain good grades in class but also helps them in achieving their goals and carrier path. It provides students a sense of discovering, developing and understanding among student writers. 1.4 Evaluation Rhetorical awareness can be evaluated on the basis of skills of a person. Rhetorical situation are very complex and involves many factors such as purpose, audience, person to whom one is addressing, social background, text type and personal beliefs of audience and writer’s etc. evaluation is conducted on all these factors. Each area should be studied efficiently. Teacher mainly play role of audience. They are the one who evaluate that either student is aware in relation to a particular purpose assigned to them. They become a reader while evaluating a person’s writing and try to identify what a student is thinking. This creates results in two forms either a thinker or a writer. After doing rhetorical analysis one gets the knowledge of language which is important in achieving persuasion. Sometimes teachers also evaluate writing by playing a role of hypothetical audience, i.e. they may ask students to write a speech on the board of directors of the school or maybe to the senator. This is a critical evaluation process. 1.5 Process Rhetoric is the basic fundamental that a student learns in his class. It is mainly situated. This means in colleges students are asked to write on a particular topic in short, every time they are given a specific situation which have many characteristics such as firstly, they have to identify purpose of writing, and then who will be the target audience, in last identifying the field and class of audience. Students should be aware of these things in order to communicate with the audience effectively. Rhetorical awareness process is based on two things, firstly identifying the purpose of writing and secondly studying the behavior and preferences of target audience. Both of them are discusses in detail below: Purpose Firstly, one should be aware of the purpose of writing. It involves goals of a writer. It is mainly given in an assignment by the teacher. Audience mainly influence a writers purpose, therefore, it is essential to study the perspective of audience before starting communication on the main theme. Writing assignments can have multiple purposes including both the writer as well as audience. For instance, a student can have many purpose of writing such as getting an A grade in the course, goals of class and carrier, to get good remarks from audience and teachers etc. So, firstly identifying the purpose of writing is very essential. Audience After identifying the purpose, studying and identifying target audience is very essential because they are the one to whom the message will be transferred. Mainly teachers are the target audience. Teachers play a vital role in the evaluation of students writing. Most of the time teachers act as representatives to the students, this is best time for everyone to discuss their purpose with the teachers in order to identify their perception on it and then things can be managed accordingly. Sometimes teachers play a role of hypothetical audience, i.e. one may be asked to write a demo on the board of directors of the company or maybe a letter to the senator. 1.6 Summary Rhetoric is mainly used to communicate our ideas to the other person. It affects emotions, ethical and intellectual behavior of a person. It leads to effective communication. It is used as a tradition in western countries. Rhetorical situation includes any situation given by teachers to their students. But in order to deal with any situation it is important to have awareness of all the basic concepts of writing. Rhetorical awareness is important to communicate the purpose effectively. Students write on the basis of their ideas and perceptions. This enables them to convince others and handle the uncertain situations in life effectively. It creates positive attitude among students. This enables them to communicate in many forms such as in words, numbers, sounds, diagrams and figures. It offers multi-tasking to students. Its awareness not only helps us in getting good grades but also helps in achievement of our goals. Evaluation of rhetorical awareness is mainly done by audience i.e. teachers. They judge students writing from all aspects such as purpose, writing context and type, personal beliefs etc. each area is critically evaluated by them. They judge students on two bases either a good thinker or a writer. Rhetoric is something which students learn in class. Teachers provide a purpose to the student and they have to present that topic on the basis of their assessment and ideas.
