What do you believe about others? Every human being has goodness ingrained in him/her and this perhaps is the reason that so many people struggle torestore peace and harmony in the society. They express their concern for others when they work for society, which is a testimony of their goodness. We can see small children caring for each other suggesting that goodness prevails in every heart. Children are the true face of the creator which is evident from their fearless expressions of happiness.
As they mature their innocence gives way to crime and corruption, dishonesty and deceit. Every individual is knowledgeable; experiences wrongly interpreted have left an indelible impression on the human mind. These experiences influence the mind which in turn influences wrong doings. This is because the knowledge is covered with a layer of dust or ignorance. But what needs to be recognized is that the substratum in every human being is pure and full of knowledge; it is knowledge. The adverse experiences urge them and take them towards tyranny and fights, towards malpractices and dishonesty.
However, the inherent knowledge in others also brings out the creativity in them. Every individual is creative in some art or another. Talent is inherent or as they say, in-born. All it needs is an exposure and with little efforts they display their talents. While some perform well in painting others sing or dance well. While some are good orators others excel at music. Nevertheless, all the goodness is concealed because of the lack of trust and confidence we have against each other. The world has become full of corruption; human does not trust another human.
Frustration has taken over people and all we find is people full of anger and greed. Selfish motives lurk in every action. What we need to believe is that behind this frustration, selfishness and distrust is the pain and agony. If only we could believe this, each individual could make this world a better place to live in. When we see a woman selling sex we believe it is out of compulsion; we know it is not out of choice. We can see through her pain and agony; the heart bleeds but we feel helpless.
We must constantly remind ourselves that every individual is warm and compassionate at heart. How often we have experienced the immediate urge to help another human being who falls down on the road? How often we have instinctively saved a child from falling down? At that moment we are above any caste or creed and the only creed we know is human. Nothing matters and the action is spontaneous. This implies that to be good to others is a spontaneous action and comes naturally. The true nature of human beings is only love and truth.
In their own small way every individual is full of compassion and kindness. The goodness of people has been witnessed during all the major global catastrophes such as the Tsunami. While there have been people that have taken advantage of the situation, there have been double the number of people whose hearts bled at the distress around. There have been thousands who silently, genuinely sacrificed a part of what was theirs to bring some relief to those in distress. These are the moments we realize and remember the nobility of human beings.
In moments of despair and grief kind words from fellow human beings can transform our mood instantly. I have experienced this once when I was totally exhausted after a harrowing experience and had almost broken down. A spontaneous smile from a friend showed me the light at the end of the tunnel. I instantly realized how a colleague, a friend can help bring cheer and smiles, and no gift can ever match this wonderful gift. In giving we truly live; in cheering we soar high, we receive happiness in multiples.
I believe that every individual is full of goodness. All it needs is for us to realize that no individual is superior or inferior to others. The human in us is revealed in moments of distress, which means we all have humanity ingrained in us. Materialism and consumerism has overpowered the mind to express greed and dishonesty. These are perishable; anything that is an addition is perishable. The truth is imperishable and the truth is that human beings are full of love, compassion and truth. This is the true nature of all human beings.
This alone has been the cause of the survival of the world, the cause of peace and happiness. It is the collective effort that is needed and collectively we can make the world a beautiful place to live in.
