Industrial accidents University Student Id Course Executive summary This report is trying to explore the accidents in industries where engineers are expected to work towards ensuring safety. Engineers are expected to work towards ensuring accidents in industries are eliminated through discharging their job obligation while considering the safety issues. The work of engineers is crucial and it has a major role in making sure that their operations prevent the occurrence of accidents. The major challenge facing the production of the required information is the access of the relevant information but the challenge was overcome through the use of different sources. The lessons learned concerning the role of the engineer in making the world safe through minimizing industrial accidents are provided. The safety measures that can be employed minimizing accidents in the engineering profession and the industrial relations are discussed. Introduction Engineers have the responsibility of ensuring safety of the public through minimizing the occurrence of accidents in industries. The moment the engineers realize a situation that can possibly endanger life and property they can notify the relevant authority for the necessary action to be taken. The safety aspects can be guaranteed through making sure that the necessary standards are met and the safety aspects considered (Want, 2004). Besides, engineers have a role they play in protecting the public from accidents that can be caused by unsafe industrial operations. Engineers have a role in making the world safer where they are expected to demonstrate high standards of integrity in discharging their obligation in reducing industrial accidents. Engineering has a great impact on the life of the people in different aspects (Jones, 2002). Violation of the standards set can result in harm to the life hence affecting the quality of life by cause many accidents in industries. However, engineers are expected to uphold the rules of their profession to make sure their work is able to make the world safe by making it free from industrial accidents. This report explores how engineers can make the world a safer place through eliminating industrial accidents. Industrial accidents Engineers in the process of delivering their services are required to demonstrate their commitment to ensure reduction of the industrial accidents (Weber and Mason, 2011). They are expected to show dedication in ensuring public safety in the process of discharging their job obligations in the industries. Demonstrating professional behavior among the engineers is important in improving safety necessary to eliminate accidents in industries. The public need to be in good terms with the industries through ensuring that it is protected from any harm from the industries (Augustine, 2005). The engineers have the responsibility of making sure that their activities as the do their job are geared towards avoiding industrial accidents that can harm the public. The engineers need to ensure adherence to the set standards operating in the industries they work in the process of enhancing the industrial safety. The engineering involve the codes of conduct in the profession necessary for avoiding accidents where the engineers are expected to work towards enhancing safety of the public. The engineers have some obligations to their clients and society of ensuring that their activities are geared towards making the world safer place for mankind and all the living organisms (Alley and Leake, 2004). They are expected to work while guided by the standards necessary for making the right judgment on the safety issues that have an impact on the society. The engineering profession expects the professionals in the field to offer the services that they have the necessary competence hence able to prevent the occurrence of accidents. Besides, the engineering profession holds paramount the safety of the public hence the activities of the engineers are expected to consider their implications of their activities to the state of safety of the public (Shariff and Zaini, 2010). The engineers need to avoid any deceptive act that can make them fail to ensure a conduct that is able to avoid the industrial accidents that make the engineering profession have a negative image. According to the professional obligations of engineers, the relations in the engineering profession need to be guided by high standards in operations with aim of ensuring safety (Alley and Leake, 2004). The engineers are expected by the established codes of conduct in the profession to acknowledge the errors that might cause and avoid any possible accident in the process of discharging their obligations. They are not allowed by the profession to promote their interests while ignoring the safety needs in the engineering profession. The public interests in the engineering profession are given priority as it is through engaging the key stakeholders that the necessary strategies for minimizing accidents can be formulated (Shariff and Zaini, 2010). For instance, an engineer is expected to make sure that they adhere to the designing standards to make sure that accidents in industries are minimized. The engineering professions associate safety procedures with great benefits in developing a good working environment (Augustine, 2005). The safety of the employees is important in improving their productivity hence establishing the necessary safety procedures can guarantee a good working environment for the employees. The employees who are working in a safe environment are likely to be motivated hence occupational safety procedures can be important sources of motivation for the employees (Lavoie, et al, 2010). The employers have a duty under the common law of taking reasonable care when addressing the safety issues of the employees in their working environment hence minimizing the industrial accidents. A safe working environment need to be provided to the engineers to make sure that their welfare guaranteed hence reducing the chances of accidents taking place in the organization. The legal framework provides the roles of the employers to the employees that are necessary to ensure that the safety of the workers in considered and given priority. The industrial relations in minimizing accidents in the engineering field has two faces that can include problem-solving, and science building (Krausmann, et al, 2011). The two faces are all focused on providing the necessary working environment that guarantees safety of the engineers by minimizing the industrial accidents at workplace. In the industrial relations minimizing industrial accidents is important as engineers need to be safe as they discharge their work obligations (Want, 2004). Some employers are focused on profits failing to give the necessary concerns for the safety of the employees hence the industrial relations are primarily aimed at making the employers work towards providing a safe environment for the employees that is free from accidents. Role of engineers in minimizing industrial accidents Industrial accidents can be minimized through increased commitment of the engineers in discharging their job obligations in ways that can enhance safety (Jones, 2002). Engineers have an important role they play in the process of ensuring the public and other employees are protected through engineering activities that minimize accidents. Some of the activities of the engineers can promote safety hence the engineer are expected to make sure that they minimize accidents. They have a duty of making sure that they minimize the possibility of industrial accidents that can cause harm to the public and colleagues (de Vere, et al, 2009). The engineers can minimize the industrial accidents through following the necessary standards in their operations. In the industries, the engineers can make sure that their activities are able to guarantee safety in the industries where they need to be keen to avoid causing accidents. The engineering field has shown great concerns for the safety of the workers and the members of the public. Most of industrial accidents can be associated with the failure of the engineers to adhere the established standards of operating (Dwyer, 2013). Besides, adhering to the professional procedures can be important in making sure accidents that are preventable are prevented through following the established ways of operating. The industries have the capacity of protecting the public and the workers from accidents through establishing the necessary safety policies. For instance, the industries can establish policies necessary for addressing accidents that are caused due to human activities (Weber and Mason, 2011). Therefore, engineers need to make sure that they are engaged in their operations while considering the need for safety measures to minimize accidents. Conclusion Industrial accidents can be prevented through establishing the necessary organizational policies that can help in making sure that safety is guaranteed.
