Small Office Network - Work Breakdown Structure, Resources Needed vs Available - Example

Assignment 27th October 2016 Project Description Small office based networks are designed usually for those organizations, which are established in a room or a hall. It is also necessary for a small office to have a network instead of going to a specific computer in a room to perform specific task. The major reason to build the small office network is that a person who wants to communicate with members in his / her team can create a virtual office in the firm (Beal, 2016). There are some other equipment required which helps to create a small office network, like PCs, and some other things. Small office network have high flexibility, communication between team members and the more technical reason for the office network is that it contains only one administration point, and data is also stored in the main computer for backup. Resources can be shared easily, and if office has a virtual access from out of the network, then remote access provides powerful features for its users to use the system from different physical locations (Alan Hughes, 2016). Information technology (IT) security, low overhead cost, provide accurate and real time view about the business and enhanced performance is also beneficial in building small office network (Comparebusinessproducts, 2009; Forouzan & Fegan, 2006; Nash, 2000). Stakeholders Stakeholders Roles & Responsibilities Network Administrator Have the responsibility to check the system is up to date and working effectively, also known as system administrator. Data Analyst Have the responsibilities to check whether the data which is travelling across network is free from any malicious attack and solve problems related to data. Security Analyst Have the responsibilities about the protection of computer network. Team Members Have the responsibility to perform the task assigned by the project manager. Project Objective / Success Criteria 1. Building a small office network often requires extra technology like hub and routers and some security firewalls which provide several benefits such as easy to use, data backup option, centralized authority and resource sharing (Mohamed, 2016). 2. Major benefit for the small office network according to business point of view are that users can access and use data from the different physical location and also have remote access feature, and budget for maintaining the all computers is also decreased, data become more secure due to use of several security devices and software's, staff work with each other in an easy way, less maintenance required to properly configure the small office network (IT Direct, 2011). 3. New reference can be built using small network which provides more clients, and new opportunities are also met, it also provides more connections to different talented and qualified people which suggestions that how we can improve business, also all members works like a team that each one can give advice to different people about security measures, business owner rating will be increased, confidence built to solve existing and new problem and confidence for meeting the new people (Baird, 2016). 4. If network has the capability to solve the problems of clients within the price range that client wants to spend, then network gets a success (Techtarget, 2016). Scope (In and Out) Small office networks provide the facilities to the small area, or in a specific building. These types of network can't communicate on a larger distance and require more staff to handle the network. All components in the network are handled by single entity. Only trusted users can access the small network, and a suspicious user can easily detected. No more than one entities can handle the small area network (Cole, 2016). Assumption and dependencies Assumptions Following resources and technology are required to complete the networking project: 1. Main Pc 2. Laptop 3. Printer 4. Backup Device 5. Boradband / Router 6. Wireless Router 7. Cables 8. Ethernet or Power Adapter Without the above listed items the design of a small office network is very difficult. Whole small office network depends on the above listed technologies. Constraints Must have a planning before installing the network project. Selection of devices from the several available devices in the markets according to the features required and keep in mind also cost of the devices before installation of physical devices. So that in future installation becomes easy and requires less cost to update. Network should be a wired or wireless network, if it is wired then require more physical equipment to create a secure network, and if it wireless then it require more security to handle the data across the network. Must take a look at configuration for the proper working and communication of all computers, laptops and devices which are part of the physical or wireless network. Some resources are available while other resources are required for designing the small office network. Human resources are available like Network administrators, Data Analyst, security analyst and team members who are using network, are available. Books on the internet, tutorials are on the internet to make network more secure are also known as available resources. Online blogs and forums which have information and discussion about networking are also known as available resources (Cattelan, 2016). While other resources like router, power adapter cables, wireless router, print server and port network switches are needed for the implementation of small office network. Conclusion In this report the planning of a small office network having the ability to connect the people which are under the same building or in a same network local area network is discussed. Stakeholders of the small office networks are data analyst, security analyst and network administrator. Some business objectives are also given in the report along the success criteria. Scope of the small network included both in and out of the scope is given in the report. Required things are given under assumptions and limitations are given under constraints.
