Abstract This report contains description of design work and system design. It aim at using schematic capture and design circuit designed by Multisim and Xilinx Vivado CAD software for implementation on the board. The specific target board to be used is Basys3 manufactured by Degilentinc. and contains Xilinx FPGA. As the board support the Multisim and Vivado it was be downloaded on Artix- 7 FPGA on the board using the USB connection that also acts as source of power supply. Thisboard main aim assist in gaining knowledge on building real digital circuits. Introduction This is a report which aims at describing and explaining the design idea. This report however does not include the procedures that were used in making the design in the laboratory. In this report however contains the requirement specification in which it is very important and designed on the first. It entails what the design has to accomplish and help in setting the requirement of the design Organization of design describes the whole idea from the stage 1 by use of diagrams and show how the design is organized inclusion of schematics. It also explains the components of the design of the design circuit Testing discussion involves the evidence necessary to support the discussion of the design organization. It involves explaining the incomplete parts and explains in detail the quality of the designed circuit.it also shows evidence of success of the design Reflective statement involves a conclusion of the design presented, its problems and setbacks and some of future expected improvements on the design. This also includes some of individual failures and how can be improved for future career development. Including resistors and DC needed in the circuit. The game is downloaded and run on FPGA board by use of National instruments Xilinx vivado. The main idea of game is based of arcade game called “asteroids”. The game is called crosshairs an arcade shooting game in which the player controls a pair of crosshairs on the screen that shoots at the rocks that appear randomly at different. Requirement 1 I. TITLE: RUN THE GAME DESCRIPTION: the game should enable player, using the bit file enable it display using a VGA. This is used as a display interface. II. Requirement 2 TITLE: background color DESCRIPTION: the game should have different backgrounds and also able to show to colors simultaneously such as the color of the rock and background of the space III. Requirement 3 TITLE: scan pattern of the display. DESCRIPTION: the raster of the VGA display should start at top left of the screen and end at bottom right of the VGA screen. When restarting the game the beam should move to the starting point. To test on VSYNC and HSYNC IV. Requirement 4 TITLE: display of the crosshairsand score DESCRIPTION: the screen the “raster” should display the crosshairs and also display the rocks as they move randomly with the desired color and movement should be horizontal. V. Requirement 5 TITLE: crosshair firing DESCRIPTION: the player should be able shoot the rocks and move using the five buttons which are up/down, right/ right and shoot button at the center. They labeled BT1 to BT5 in the Basy3 board the bullet should be directed on the all directions and bullet not used more than once. VI. Requirement 6 TITLE: display of the rocks shapes DESCRIPTION: they should have desired shapes and color VII. Requirement 7 TITLE: shoot down the rock DESCRIPTION: The stone when hit the system should detect the collision and enable a new stone to emerge at a different position and also indicate marks on the screen. VIII. Requirement 8 TITLE: Game reset The game should be reset when button on the board is pressed .this is possible after the player has been hit. Hence cannot shoot or move again. Organization of design The design of this system comprise of segments divided into hierarchy to be able to explain the design of the system. This is the very important to ensure good design. All the schematics are broken into smaller and tested independently but they are not too many to enable easy working with. They are designed to understand the input and outputof the systems. They are also tested on the VGA driver and is schematic it is used to test output is background, guns and bullets and visual effects. The VGA controller is generated digitally from the Basys3 board out of FPGA to allow simple graphics. To test this there were counters to count lines down and pixel. The design of the VGA is tested buy a 100MHz divided by four. There was test on VYSNC and HYSNC timing. The movement is done on the five buttons on the board. The main testing will be done on display of VGA display controller which connects with both the background of the game. As shown below I n the VGA display below show a screenshot of a VGA display of game in which it was shown that the game was able to launch and the background was of different colors of the rocks and the background. And when the hit by the rock it restarts from the original position and scores are shown on the right hand side of the screen. In the picture below shows the Basys3 board running and the LED flashing is an indicating that the background is working and the LED on the bottom indicate when the rocks are falling and when the player fires and they flash when the fired bullet moves out of the screen. With programing of Vivido the game can be restarted after filling. missiles , crosshair and rock shapes do not display well as per my patterns I think it is because of bad values using wrong INIT values .they are all moving in desired direction but they are not stable when I changed the bit they were not smooth. Reflective statement Am not very satisfied with the work as per the performance this is because I was confused by the operation of the Xilinix software and led to system failure. This has resulted to some failure due to the fact that I am unfamiliar with some basic libraries such as ROMS and register and the fact I had no experience in making my own digital circuit I have followed lecturer idea step by step and was able to produce this as my final work. During the design period I have some problems with schematic and some bus tap connection error. But in my design there is a strong structure of schematics. Also I had backed up my work and I have backed my work in logbook and also stored them in Disks in my computer. In conclusion this design work was a difficult task and it has improved my altitude and motivated me to take digital design as my career.
