There is a duty for building owners or responsible persons to take general fire precautions under Article 8, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. This fire precaution includes those safety measures associated with fire fighting and detection. The paper “Building Details and Fire Safety Risk Assessment”  is a forceful example of a report on engineering and construction. There is a duty for building owners or responsible persons to take general fire precautions under Article 8, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

This general fire precaution includes those safety measures associated with fire fighting and detection. emergency routes and exits, mitigation of the effects of fire, maintenance of fire safety equipment and devices, and safety of people in case of fire under Article 13. Moreover, building works must comply with the requirements of Schedule 1 and Regulation 7 of the Building Regulations 2010 and may be guided by relevant Approved Documents such as Approved Document B (Fire Safety) Volume 2 for buildings other than dwelling houses.

The structure in this study is a three-story open-space school building with an atrium. The Ground Floor has a floor area of roughly 650 meters, with two lecture theatres, a kitchen, a dining and fuelling area, a cafe and social learning flexible space, several toilets, utility rooms, lifts, and SS Office. There are five stairs leading to the first and second floors. The first floor also contains two lecture theatres, video conferencing rooms, a large open area for student services, learning, and teaching support staff, utility rooms, a faith room, and a number of small group study rooms.

The second floor, on the other hand, contains the library, a large study area, a video editing room, and a small meeting room.Similarly, the kitchen is also vulnerable to the effect of air coming from the atrium with a swing door directly leading to the open space. For additional fire safety, this door should be fitted with an automatic shutter. Moreover, in terms of fire detection and warning, critical areas in the Ground Floor such as the kitchen may benefit from such a device as shown below.
