STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE PAGE 2 OF 7 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REVISION/DATE: SOP 47-14 SUBJECT: STANDARD OPERATING PREOCEDURE FOR SALES/CUSTOMER SERVICES, MANUFACTURING AND QUALITY CONTROL OF DESKTOP COMPUTER SYSTEMS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.0 PURPOSE To develop an appreciation, understanding, and application of the ISO 9001: 2008 Quality System. 2.0 SCOPE  The procedure is applicable to every employee of Geekco.

The employees are divided into three departments: sales, manufacturing and quality control. Geekco is striving to provide consistent quality control at hard-to-beat prices. It is bidding on a 3-year government project. ISO 9001:2008 is a compulsory standard for all suppliers in this project. If the bid is successful, Geekco may expand its business in a very short period of time. 3.0 DEFINITION Geekco is a small manufacturer (30 employees) of desktop computer systems, specializing in building customer-configured systems to meet its budgets and needs.

Geekco is striving to provide consistent quality control at hard-to-beat prices. The building process has three stages: choosing components, building a computer and then installing the OS. 4.0 RESPONSIBILITY STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE PAGE 3 OF 7 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REVISION/DATE: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUBJECT: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1. Sales department The sales department shall be in charge of informing and educating the consumers about the requirements for their computers. 4.2 Manufacturing department The manufacturing team will be responsible of assembling and building the computer 4.

3 Quality control team The quality department will be responsible for ensuring the highest standard are met and that the built computers run without any hitch. 5.0 PROCEDURE NOTE: Safety precautions-avoid the risk of electrical shock during the building process by avoiding conducting surfaces when the system is plugged into the power supply. The pins in which the processor should fit in should not be tampered and not bend, when bent the computer will not work - Use a non-conductive workspace, raised and kept out of reach of children and pets. Do not set the motherboard on the anti-static paper. The paper is conducted and will damage the motherboard. Wear an electrostatic static wrist. Have a good workspace and available tools- screwdriver, cable ties, twist ties and zip ties The sales team shall advise the consumer appropriately on the computer. 5.1 Make sure all parts are compatible.

Choose the same socket for the motherboard and the CPU. 5.2 For a triple channel memory, motherboard, use 3 memories. For the dual, use two memory sticks. 5.3 Choose a case that is compatible with the motherboard. USB headers on the motherboard should the on the same direction as in the case. 5.4 For gamers, use a discrete video card like AMD or NVIDIA. For non-gamers, the inbuilt video card is fine. 5 Mount the processor in the LGA. Disengage the tension arm, remove the plastic protector and fix the processor. Align the notches of the CPU with that of the motherboard. 5.6 Insert the heat- sink fan. Ensure the fan clamps into place. 5.7 Insert the memory, according to the slots on the motherboard. Make sure they snap into place. 5.8 Plug in the power connectors to the motherboard 5.9 Run the Test-boot. Plug in the power-supply, and the HDMI cable into the video card. Short-circuit the power terminals. 5.10 Open the case.

The power supply should be mount at the bottom side of the case, with the intake fan facing downwards. 5.11 Fix the drives in their respective trays. 5.12 Mount the motherboard, making sure the motherboard standoffs. The standoffs secure and ground the motherboard, install the output/output shield on the back of the motherboard before inserting it. Bolt the motherboard, but not too tightly. 5.13 Plug the USB 3.0 headers into the plugs back of the motherboard 5.14 Connect the power switch-reset cable into the individual pins 5.

15 Unplug the mechanical hard drives that the OS is installed on the SSD. Download the drivers of the specific computer from the manufacturer’s website. 16 Connect the computer and its peripherals and power on the computer. Insert the installation CD before powering it. 5.17 Follow the installation guide as provided by the computer when powered. Read the terms of agreement first before accepting it. 5.18 Partition the drive according to your specification 5.19 Wait as the installation completes 5.20 Type the computer’s name and password 5.21 Enter the product key on prompt 5.22 Update the hardware drivers (chipset, USB, network interface card, audio and video card) for the best performance. 5.23 Download the drivers on a different working computer from the manufacturer’s website and transfer them using an optical disc to the built computer.

Install the downloaded drivers one-by-one. 5.24 Setup internet connection. Download Windows updates 5.25 Check if there are any other drivers that are to be installed by going to the device manager, then clicking on the device which names have exclamation marks. 5.26 Initialize the drive. Right click on my computer, manage them on disc management. Click on the uninitialized drive. The drive should be formatted using the NTFS format. 5.27 Download an antivirus of your choice for protection of the computer from harm.
