The Early intervention model of situational motivation developed by Paris and Turner (1994) has been the theoretical framework for this. The study will be done in West Clayton Elementary School. It is located in College Park, Georgia. Our sample for this study will be third, fourth, and fifth-grade teachers and students. They will represent 15 teachers and 150 students. Four variables will be tested – self-efficacy, self-esteem, self-explanatory style, and instructional setting. Data will be collected with the help of a video recorder.

Semi-structured interviews will be carried out. The same process will be used for all the subjects to validate the findings. One-Way-ANOVA will be used as a statistical procedure.Reading and understanding is a basic step of learning. It is an important skill in education and also for meaningful participation in society and employment. A very important part of communication is the written language. It is vital for getting and giving information, for building personal, social, and cultural identity.

In the field of education, this plays the central role, as it is needed for reading, writing, comprehending, interrogating, and responding. It also empowers the students to get the information, processes it, and presents it. Children need to use this skill not only in school but also outside in the home and society. If they develop this skill they can reach out to a wider area and maybe beyond local boundaries and thus participate at a global level. Even in completing basic education, it is a must.

The reading achievement indicator tells about the development level of reading in the child. This is mainly done through early childhood education and early schooling. The reading achievement indicator is based on PIRLS-01, Progress in International Reading Literacy Study. PIRLS is a large international comparative study. It is the assessment of achievement and reading experiences of children of grade four or its equivalent in 35 countries. It includes a written test of comprehension by reading and answering a series of questions.
