Immediate Post-MBA Professional Goals After getting my MBA from Kelley, I intend to pursue a career in business management with a corporate firm in the United States. Prior to my studies, I have served in a similar capacity for several years, which motivated me to further my education in the first place. I realized that in as much as I may be competent, I needed exposure to more theoretical and practical aspects of management before I could reach the zenith of my career. In brief, I intend to put to use my skills and experience to practice in a management position. After about five years, I will pursue a doctorate in human resource management so that I can learn as much as there is to learn in the field. In this way, I will improve both my practical competence and theoretical understanding. However, although I would like to be at the helm of a big company am aware that as an employee, I will always hold a limited responsibility. Therefore, I would also like to open my own marketing company, which I can manage with full autonomy and create employment opportunities for hundreds of people. My biggest ambition since I was young was to open and run my own firm, and one of my role model is Apple Inc.’s founder the late Steve Jobs. The fact that he started Apple under difficult conditions and turned it into the world’s most valuable enterprise is a great source of inspiration for me. I believe that likewise, with the right amounts of patience determination and hard work, I can also build an enterprise of my own from a scratch. Being an MBA, I will likely qualify for a more senior position than I have done in retrospect. Therefore, I will have hands on experience in what it takes to manage a company. The experience will then be applied in my own company when I am successful in creating one. Moreover, I will be gradually accumulating capital and networks for my future endeavour as an entrepreneur. However, I must concede that the road to my goals will likely be difficult one and am realistic enough to acknowledge that my plans may not necessarily work out as I intend for them to. Start-ups are often more complicated and expensive to start than most new entrepreneurs assume and in the past, I have interacted with peers who have failed terribly at this. While I do not hope to fail, I have a contingency plan whereby should my ambition in this field not materialize; I can always fall back on teaching. When I start my doctoral studies, I will do so with two key objectives, to make myself a more effective entrepreneur and a more marketable professional since with the qualifications I can lecture at the college level. In addition, the theoretical knowledge I will have accumulated coupled with my practical skills will make me a potentially very effective consultant. Therefore, I may decide to venture out and open a consultancy firm; however, these alternatives should not only be thought of as contingencies in case if failure. I think of them as some of the many things I can do with my education and experience. My greatest challenge My greatest challenge has been supporting myself through my college as an undergraduate. While my parents have always been supportive, they taught me the importance of independence from a very young age. Therefore, when I first left home for college, I was determined not ask for anything above the tuition fees from my parents intending to work my way through school. This took a lot of courage and although my parents were skeptical, they supported my decision. I started by working in the school cafeteria but after a few months, I got a job with an online marketing firm that I could do from my dorm room on my PC. However, it was not as easy as I assumed it would be and I had to struggle balancing between my studies and work. In my sophomore year, I realized that although I was making more money and had accumulated quite a bit in savings, my school performance was suffering a great deal. My parents put their foot down and said that unless I showed more seriousness in my studies, I would have to stop working. Had I wanted to, I could simply have told them I would stop but keep working since they had no way of finding out. However, I respect them a great deal, so I resolved to work harder at establishing a balance. Eventually, I did manage to do both without putting my studies at jeopardy, but this exercise required my full will power and self-discipline. With time, I came up with a personal program that allowed me to work in the evening and early morning so I could focus on academics during the day and spend with my friends.
