Educational leader 25-7 Educational Leader For any happening there is a basic component known as L.E.A.F: L: Listen (what has happened E: Emotions (How do you feel?) A: Agreement (What can be done about it?) F: Feel (What is the mutual consideration?) Scenario 1: Johnnie in this scenario might not be under any influence at all as suggested by Ms. Colora, to investigate the issue as an administrator myself I would consult with the counselling director/teacher on campus first of all. Using the above mentioned technique I can try and counsel Johnnie by myself to evaluate what might be the issue or refer Johnnie to the counsellor for 3 to 4 sittings. If Johnnie happened to be under the influence of any drugs or something as might be,( being a teenager) it can be expected in this age, I would myself gain the confidence of the child himself and try and counsel him. If the situation is otherwise then Johnnie might be suffering from different aspects including: Trauma Stress Anxiety Relationship Issues Panic Depression Bereavement & Loss In my aspect counselling is a must for all teenagers because nowadays, most teenagers suffer from issues which they find it hard to discuss issues with friends or family and need somebody for help and guidance. If the child is found to be a victim of drug abuse then in severe case I would contact the guardians and make sure the child does not have to suffer anymore and does not become an addict.(Eyetoeyewales.co.uk School Based Counselling | Drupal In-text: (Eyetoeyewales.co.uk, 2014)) Scenario 2: According to a report regarding “The Problem of Bomb Threats in Schools” , it is suggested that Bombs in School all over USA are more imminent than any other building, any bombing situation threat is considered by the police before taking any immediate action, in this case reported by the head custodian the specifics Period 4 The time has been stated making it a specific threat, then police has to take an action sending a force to investigate immediately. As the in charge of school the sole responsibility of any such event happening would fall on me. To help staying away from any panic situation I would establish a connection with close faculty members and inform them of the situation that is real and ask them to report it as a drill to the students/ an other better option might be to assemble the students in an open ground away from the building. Calling it an assembly I would claim and announce a sports day assigning students to stay away from the building and assigning them to different activities and games informing them a bomb disposal drill is active in the building. Having controlled the student population, I would personally make sure the bomb disposal sweeps the building as fast as possible. As reported by the above mentioned report, concealment is not that heave in such bomb threats even if a bomb is present it would not be that high school in a student vendetta scenario; it may be against the authorities or the staff members. In such scenarios it is usually easy to find the bombs dispose them. If the situation looks serious I would tell the students to go home and later explain to the parents so that they are aware any such event took place and do not find out from any other source, the information being wrong. If a vice-versa conditions were to be found. I would send the students to their classes keeping the police officials on duty and active for the remaining of the day or week.( R. Newman, G.Problem-Oriented Guides for Police Problem-Specific Guides Series Guide No. 32 In-text: (R. Newman, 2014)) Scenario 3: For the day the event has taken place I would dismiss the students to their homes. I would also give them the next day off. The next day I would call officials I would investigate the event I would put janitors on duty to check who tries to do it again, I would also install security cameras that are a bit disguised and would record and give feedback 24/7.And I will wait for the event to take place again. Such false alarms are a nuisance to everybody; I would want students’ to understand the gravity of this act. Due to the unavailability of staff members, police officers, fire squads and other emergency response teams, that may have been used where a genuine condition had risen up there have been situations where people have died, there have been murders, emergency situations that could not be attended to. So, it is necessary that all students in an institution realize that this prank can cost lives of others. If a student is caught I would give maximum punishment to the student in front of the entire school so that they know that the institution would show no leniency towards any such event. Then I would explain to them how false alarms are not just a huge nuisance, but, also if in such an event another loss of live or lives occur, then it would be that one person’s fault for such a sad accident. Also it is a huge burden on the fire department for attending such calls, a huge loss of resources in itself and due to budget cuts across the globe it is an extreme disruption for them. For getting rid of this nuisance once and for all, I would first of all cease the connection directly set up with calling the fire department. Janitors would be appointed as fire safety officers who will first of all check the entire area whether there has been an actual fire or not, only then the fire department would be notified. The most suitable fire alarm machine for schools, colleges is one that either uses an ID(identification) Badge or some bar code that is only on staff cards and fire alarms only being activated by them and otherwise not. Rules should be designated that in case any student found guilty of such a prank would suffer serious consequences and would have to fine and also go through detention for a couple of days at least. Because after all loss of lives is a grave issue and I would not want my own institution to be part of any such allegation, it would be bad repute for the institution itself. Being an educational leader or in charge one has a lot of responsibility and the weight of the outcome of any consequence that it has on the outside of the institution falls on the “Education Leader”. (Fiskfire.co.uk Fisk Fire Group In-text: (Fiskfire.co.uk, 2014)) Scenario 4: In such an event it is possible to give the students off for a day but keeping the student’s interests in mind another approach that might be used is that because all toilets are functional half of the toilets be locked for the day (and water stored separate for them if possible). It be announced in the Morning Assembly that the school is experiencing a water shortage and that all students are advised only to use the washrooms when highly necessary and not waste water at all. Any student found wasting water would be punished with detention and a penalty fine. It may later be decided to go lenient on the student if his actions are not that much of a crisis issue. If water had been saved in the closed down washrooms then they may be utilized once the school runs out of water in that case. Otherwise if the school runs dry on water than the students may be given off for a day or if the expenses allow it get a private company to fill up the water tank once and the above mentioned procedure be followed again. Also janitors will be instructed not to use water for cleaning purposes for the next two days. (Anon In-text: (2014)) References: (2014). Eyetoeyewales.co.uk,. (2014).
