Impact of Establishment of HCT in Western Region Variables 1. Establishment of HCT in the Western region led to increase in number of student graduates. In most cases, it is not hard to find that the higher education institutions are often located in the urban areas. This then deems it close to impossible for the people residing in the rural areas to gain any access to these facilities. The expenses involved may be too hefty. Consequently, most people will only study up to high school and drop out. Furthermore, people living in rural areas are often stereotyped to be poor, which means they are likely not able to have the funds required to get access to the higher education facilities in the city (Ally, 2009). With the establishment of the HCT colleges in the western region, more people gained access to higher education without the trouble of having to travel for a long distance. 2. Number of student graduation with higher education level in the Western region. In the past, the people living in the western region of the UAE ended their education after high school. This gave little to no aspiration for the members of the community to seek higher education. However, with the establishment of the HCT colleges, the members of the community have people to look up to. As more and more students graduate with their degrees and diplomas from the colleges, more youths seem to be inspired to pursue higher education (Elsner, 2008). 3. Number of major offered in the HCT in the Western region. As more students enrol with the HCT colleges, it has necessitated the need for the college to offer an array of courses for them to choose from. In addition, with the rate of globalization taking place in the world, it is imperative that countries ensure that they have a wide pool of professionals to improve the economic level of the nation. Furthermore, the members of the community are likely to go and seek employment out of the country, which also makes it important for them to be skilled in an array of areas to give them competitive advantage given the cutthroat competition that exists in the employment industry (Schafft, 2010). 4. The employment level of student graduate in the Western region. Students’ graduating with higher education means that the level of innovativeness and productivity has improved to some extent. This in turn will result in improved industrialization in the area and consequently an upsurge in the employment level (Slowey, 2008). 5. The salary level of student graduate in the Western region. Graduates seeking employment demand higher pay due to the fact that having a degree is basically viewed as being more literate hence having a better worth to the organization than lack of a degree would. 6. . The level of the economy growth in the Western region. An educated society may translate to higher rates of innovation among the people of the community, higher overall productivity in terms of their performance and a faster introduction of new technology. All these have a positive impact on the level of economy in a nation (Di, 2010). An improvement in the level of economy in a state has a direct impact on the standard of living of the people in the society. To many, people living in the rural areas are simply viewed to only require practical skills. This can be an attributing factor as to why in most countries it is not hard to find that most higher education institutions are located in the urban areas. Higher education means a general improvement in the level of literacy of the people and with this enlightenment can mean an improvement in the standards of living. Hypotheses H1. The establishment of the HCT colleges in the Western region is the reason behind the increase in the number of graduates. People in the Western region in the past did not seek to get higher education given how far the colleges were located from where they stayed. However, with the establishment of the HCT colleges and the close proximity to them, more and more people are now seeking higher education which has led to an increase in the number of graduates in the area (Ally, 2009). H2. The lack of colleges in western region is the reason for lesser higher education levels in the Western region. People living in the Western region are of a lower socio-economic level. Seeking higher level of education often has higher financial implications which most of them cannot afford. This is often the contributing factor as to why after high school most students choose to drop out (Elsner, 2008). Other than the higher education colleges being located far from the western region, there is also the problem of the fees being too expensive for them to afford. Most students see the burden to be too much on their families and opt not to go further with their studies after all. H3. The student enrolment at HCT in the Western region has an impact on the number of major offered. The HCT offers more than a hundred professional programs that are of use to the industry and the local community as a whole. Over time, the people living in the Western region finally came to realize that the higher education was beneficial to not only their children but also the society as a whole. As the idea became popular, more students enrolled into the colleges. Consequently, this made it necessary for the HCT colleges to offer more fields of study in order to meet the of community. This ranges from business, communication, technology, languages, health and medicine (Panikkar, 2011). The implication this has for the employers is that they will have a pool of different professionals to choose from who have majored in different fields. H4. The number of people being employed in the western region is dependent upon the number of graduating students from the HCT western region colleges. With the high level of globalization, employers require high levels of education before deciding to employ their workers. This was a great disadvantage for the people in the Western region who before the establishment of the HCT colleges had only studied up to the high school level. However, given that most of the people living in the Western region are not that financially well off, the idea of seeking higher education considering the financial expenses is close to impossible (Schafft, 2010). This can be viewed as an attributing factor as to why there are not so many graduates with higher education degrees in the Western region. H4.1 The availability of Bachelor degree from HCT in the Western region has increase the employment opportunity. As the number of graduates in the Western region increased, the economic level also improved in terms of industrialization and productivity. This is because business people saw these as untapped resources and with the pool and literate and innovative people, it would serve to benefit them a lot if they were to set up businesses in the area. This increased the employment opportunities for people living in the area. In addition, the HCT College itself opened an employment opportunity in terms of the teaching staff and the support staff (Panikkar, 2011). H5. Student graduate from HCT in the Western region with Bachelor degree demand higher salary level in comparison to non-graduate. Graduates from HCT can be seen to be more literate and highly skilled as compared to the non-graduates. consequently, this makes them believe that they have a better value to an organization as compared to the non-graduates. Consequently, the graduates are often paid a higher salary as compared to the non-graduates. In addition, they often tend to have better job positions in most organizations given their better professional expertise and literacy as compared to the non-graduates. H6. The HCT in the Western region has strong impact on the economic growth of the region. Higher education is responsible for providing a nation with a working force that has the required skills and competencies in different fields ranging from communication, agriculture and administration to health and business industry that play a key role in the development of the nation. This in turn will impact on the general economy of the nation and not just the Western region only (Di, 2010). This is because with higher education comes a higher level of innovativeness and ease in the introduction of new technology, both of which have a positive influence on the level of productivity of a country. Conclusion In conclusion, the study is not confined to the UAE only; it also included other Arabic areas such as Oman and Saudi Arabia and parts of rural India. Due to the nature of the nature of these countries with a vast spread of arid areas, mountains and deserts, there are few or no higher education institutions found in the areas hence most students stop school after high school. Consequently, this has resulted in people residing in these areas having difficulty in accessing higher education due to their shortage of financial stability and distance from the established higher education institutions (Elsner, 2008). As a result, this necessitated the need for the government to establish colleges and higher education institutions in proximity to them in order to increase the number of student graduates from the areas.
