Achievement Gap in Education - Essay Example

 Achievement Gap in Education Schools across the U.S. have students performing at different levels irrespective of their social ability, socioeconomic status or personal capability. There is however one trend which has been under the focus of the nation’s educators since the last few decades- the achievement gap. This gap in education has been present in the U.S. education system since times immemorial. The achievement gap is not only a drawback for the group that lags behind but is in fact a drawback to the country’s overall growth. Citizens have different opinions about the reasons for the widening of this gap and it is only after several educator’s understood the reasons behind the existence of the achievement gap in the U.S. that different strategies were adopted to diminish this difference. According the National Centre for Education Statistics, the achievement gap “occurs when one group of students outperforms another group of students and the difference in average scores for the two groups is statistically significant” (NCES, 2015).
