Education as the Surest Way of Empowering an Individual Personal statement I have always believed that education is the surest way of empowering an individual. To me, the empowerment opportunity occurred in the form of this scholarship. The scholarship offers me an opportunity to transform not only myself but also my entire community. I am a hard working individual and have always excelled in my previous studies. Such is the basic reason that enhanced my suitability for the scholarship. I believe I have the adaptability and spirit to pursue the studies to completion. I purpose to sustain the hard working spirit thereby work on my strengths while improving my weaknesses with the view to becoming a holistic individual capable of identifying opportunities in environmental conservation and in helping other needy children in the society. This way, I will make the scholarship work both for me and for the rest of people in my community. My history is grim and hopeless. However, I have always loved studies. I have interacted with educated people in a number of scenarios and I have always loved their lives. My childhood role model was a district attorney who lived in my township. I promised myself while young to work hard in studies to become as successful as he was and indeed, I have and continues to work hard in my studies. The cost of high-quality education remained a forbidding factor in my quest for competitive education in leading institutions of higher learning. The scholarship offers me an opportunity to identify my interests and abilities. Furthermore, it provides me with an opportunity to work on the two in order to become a productive member of the society. As such, the scholarship is an opportunity for me to receive the education I have desired for as long as I can remember. The education I receive through the scholarship is going to help me, my family and my community in a number of ways. Among the ways the education is going to benefit me is by molding my personality into an ideal individual capable of communicating with people from various backgrounds and capable of upholding the ethical standards in any society. Education grooms people. It increases the mental capacities of an individual thereby making people more reasonable and capable of embracing peaceful ways of resolving conflicts and minimizing harm. I believe I will learn a number of humanist concepts that will enable my growth into an analytical adult capable of protecting the interests of the various publics I will interact with in future. The traits I describe above are those of a leader. This implies that the education is likely to transform me into an effective leader in a number of capacities key among which is my community. The community has a number of learned individuals. However, the locals continue to face a number of social, cultural and economic problems most of which portray the evident lack of effective leadership. As a young man who grew up in the neighborhood, I have witnessed several young people lose their lives in crime, drugs and the related violence. With quality education and desirable personality, I will integrate with the young people in the community and act as their role model. I will lead them towards reformation and equip them with appropriate social skills to enable them transform into productive members of the society. This will help reduce the level of hopelessness, violence and crime in my community. Additionally, the education will offer me economic empowerment. An educated individual is employable. I will work hard in the classrooms and acquire all the necessary skills in order to become a model student. I will strive to obtain desirable grades thereby improve my employability. Through the hard work and dedication to the studies, I will foster independent researches on various subjects of interest a feature that will contribute to the growth of knowledge in the fields. Successful completion of the studies will improve my economic status since it will improve my chances of either obtaining a job or starting an entrepreneurship. In either case, I will become a productive member of the society capable of paying his bills and providing for my family. I have always desired to buy my mother a new house and improve her living standards. The education offers a perfect opportunity for my to secure a well-paying job or to run a successful business that will enable me to support the family thereby improve the quality of life for other close members of my family. As I have explained earlier, education empowers an individual thereby making one capable of identifying opportunities and using such to benefit the society. The education I will receive from the scholarship will offer me an opportunity to empower other members of the society economically. I am an entrepreneurial individual. The knowledge will help me identify the various business opportunities in my community. I will invest in the opportunities thereby employing numerous other members of the community. Through the education, I will learn appropriate leadership, business management and marketing skills capable of fostering the success of my business. This way, I will provide numerous other members of the community with economic empowerment thereby improve their living standards. My passion is environmental conservation. The changing climatic conditions are constant reminders that humans continue to deplete the vital resources that sustain life on the planet. Through the education, I believe that I will become an important member of the society and a source of authority. With the economic might, I will initiate a number of environmental conservation initiatives in my community including those that will encourage effective garbage management with the view to improving the sanitation of my community and improving the quality of life in some of the low-income neighborhoods. I will conserve playgrounds and encourage tree planting in order to increase the vegetative cover in the community. In retrospect, the scholarship presents me with a lifetime opportunity, one that will transform me into a holistic adult capable of helping not only myself but also my community. I am a hard working individual and will, therefore, strive to excel in my studies. I will use the opportunity to identify my strengths and work towards honing the skills that will safeguard my economic empowerment. This way, I will have the financial resources to help my family and community in a number of ways. Furthermore, the education will help mold me into a visionary leader capable of empowering hundreds of other young people in my community. Read More
