Extract of sample "Is Teaching an Art or a Science"

The topic is contentious since people have varying opinions on whether teaching is an art or a science. Most teachers are knowledgeable in psychological and pedagogical principles that are paramount in teaching (Knight & Learning Forward, 2013). However, with changing times, teachers have also appreciated the fact that they require certain scientific rules to apply in the career. Teachers are often required to choose between certain teaching strategies or to select teaching materials that require scientific research (Knight & Learning Forward, 2013).

While passing knowledge to the students is more of an art, deciding on the assessment criteria is more scientific. Teaching is an art since educators and trainers rely on various theoretical assumptions about their students and their development (Knight & Learning Forward, 2013). However, in order to produce better leaders in the future, research requires to be done so that teachers can know what to teach in different fields. The dynamic nature of teaching makes it a science. Some people happen to be talented in teaching, and it makes the difference between a splendid teacher and a good teacher (Knight & Learning Forward, 2013).

Such facts show that teaching has an art aspect. However, anyone can become a teacher through training and learning, and hence the career is also a science. The education system in the USA requires that teachers’ capability and competitiveness be measured through evaluating the performance of students (Knight & Learning Forward, 2013). This clearly proves that teaching is a science like any other since it is has a competitive nature. In conclusion, teaching has both a scientific and an artistic aspect.

It is an art since it entails passion for the job, and it is a science since it requires technicality and research to perfect. Therefore, it is impossible to separate art and science in teaching.
