A. The paper by Chew d “Instructional rounds as professional development for teachers mainly focuses on how instructional rounds can enhance professional development of the teachers. The paper mainly focuses on how collaboration and participation can help to develop the teachers professionally. Such rounds help the teachers to enter into professional dialogue where they can reflect on their professional development. B. The paper is mainly based on the theoretical framework that involves adult learning theory and organizational learning theory.

The paper is mainly based on these theories and it has also reviewed literature pertaining to instructional rounds in education, use of medical rounds for instruction as well as the use of teacher collaboration for professional development. The literature reviewed was published in different peer reviewed journals. C. The questions of this study sought to establish the role of the head of departments in participating in instructional rounds. The other question sought to establish the head of departments’ perceptions about the benefits of instructional rounds.

The study also sought to establish the extent to which the heads of departments believe that this strategy can enhance the development of the teachers professionally.D. The sample of the study included participants that were drawn from high school department heads from a rural regional school district in north district in north central Massachusetts during the spring of 2012. This sample was chosen given that heads of departments are in a position to observe their teachers as well as to implement departmental policies.

This sample is also comprised of senior and experienced teachers.E. The methods used in the study mainly involved interviews and focus groups. Interviews were carried in order to get the perceptions of the heads of departments towards the aspect of instructional rounds as a method of enhancing professional development among the teachers. Focus groups were also intended to obtain group views of the heads of departments in this high school with regards to professional development of the teachers. F. The main findings of the study suggested that Instructional Rounds supports the ability of the teachers to collaborate with their colleagues to develop certain skills that enhance their professional development.

Collaboration among teachers and their students is very effective since it helps them to generate the much needed knowledge that can improve their profession as well as performance. G. Over and above, the study sought to establish the significance of instructional rounds on the professional development of the teachers. Overall, the study has found that instructional rounds are very important in the professional development of the teachers. Collaboration among the teachers is enhanced and this helps to generate knowledge among them.

However, it is recommended that further research should be carried that involves a large samples of teachers as well. More schools need to be involved in the research next time. References Chew, C.
