With Seoul, South Korea fast emerging as a powerhouse capital on the world economic and social stage, its importance as a center of culture and finance has come to be noted by the various urban development planners and economic policy makers across the world. That is why as a graduate student of Urban and Regional Planning, it is highly important that I too turn my sights towards understanding what makes the government policies and programs of Seoul work. The government policies and programs that are currently in place have become a template for the success that Korea enjoys and which other city capitals are trying extremely hard to emulate.

Attending the “Case Study Management in Seoul” program at the University of Seoul in sponsorship by the Seoul Korea Metropolitan Government would be a dream come true for me. Being a keen and observant student of public administration, I am conscious of the fact that this is a rare and privileged opportunity that I cannot pass up. Being one of the largest and most progressive cities in the world, this course will allow me to understand and experience first hand Korean politics, economy, and culture.

I am particularly looking forward to being able to create future business and political contacts during my exchange of ideas with the other program participants. As a participant of this program, I will stand to benefit greatly from the lectures that shall be conducted by the best and brightest city planning experts of Seoul. I am greatly interested in learning how to seamlessly coordinate and implement urban policies related to culture promotion, municipal finances, the green policy of the country, it's new human resources management system, and other urban planning related topics.

Seoul has long been known as the country where environmental protection has been at the forefront of their urban development and it is that template that I feel most interested in as our world continues to become environmentally conscious in all of its urban planning and development undertakings. The importance of studying abroad and observing the more successful urban planning development plans and its relation to the economic development of a city is of the utmost importance in this day and age of cooperation between cities and countries.

I am quite interested in discovering ways and means of entering into a cultural and economic exchange program with Seoul in order to create a partnership between two foreign capital cities for the benefit of one another. This study abroad program is an opportunity for myself to present and acquit myself as an impeccable ambassador for our country and students overseas. I am looking forward to sharing our own urban planning an economic development success stories with my counterparts as we all strive towards learning how to perfectly balance the needs of nature with the economic needs of our people.

I will come away from the studies with an elevated understanding of urban development and management which in turn shall result in my development of programs and policies that will best serve the urban, economic, and environmental interests of my city.
