One of realities of the current educational system in the United s is the fact that school principals have a relatively short tenure. This is both a blessing and a curse. As such, this brief analysis will point to some of the main benefits of short principal tenure at a given location as well as some of the main drawbacks to such an approach.Firstly, with regards to the benefits, the given program allows for a rapid exchange of educator knowledge within a variety of different locations. In this way, such an approach allows experts to gain valuable information at one location and then upon moving within a period of 3 or so years, transmit that information plus whatever subject matter expertise they have learned at the prior location to the new posting (Wallace, 2009).

Conversely, the biggest drawback to such an approach is the fact that many times principles are not on the ground long enough at the location to see the result of whatever changes they hoped to effect. With such a short time to engage the shareholders, it is not even possible for a principle to see the incoming freshman graduate from high school. This inability to realize many goals and see plans come to fruition is more than damaging due to the fact that it not only has an effect on the shareholders within the educational system but also on the outlook that the principle himself/herself engages.

With the attitude that change is not even worth engaging due to the fact that they will never see the fruits of this, a very depressing and complacent attitude can be garnered. ReferenceWallace, R. (2009). The servant leader and high school change more lessons from principal to principal. Lanham, Md: Rowman & Littlefield Education.
