Newly Qualified Teacher Personal Specification Qualification and Training My perpetual commitment to excel both in my personal development and in mycareer as a teacher gave me the opportunity to attend various courses and disciplines in this regard. I have already successfully completed the Foundation Degree and currently I am finishing my BA (Hons) in Childhood studies. Currently I am a GTP student. In order for me to develope my knowledge and understanding of current issues into the education sector I have attended courses like Behaviour Management Improvement, Observations and Assessments, English and Additional Language, Sign Along, Philosophy of Education and Speech and Language and the usage of ICT throughout the Curriculum. I am also familiar with 'P scales' assessing SEN children's current ability and levels. This assisted me in planning and setting future targets for the children. I am able to work effectively and to follow new guidelines, procedures and instructions independently or in a team and to deliver lessons in class to children of all abilities. While working as teaching assistant I have also read bilingual stories to children with English language difficulties. Thus, I can interpret and explain stories to children in order to better understanding the meaning in English. I fluently speak, read and write in Bengali, Urdu and Arabic. In addition I am competent in a variety of Asian languages such as Bengali, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi. Therefore, I am able to communicate with parents who have difficulties in expressing themselves in English. I feel it is important to build up a good and trustworthy relationship both with children and their parents. On this ground sustainable social and cultural communication can be developed securing the bond between teacher, child and parents. I have successfully passed an in-depth Frist Aid course and I have profound knowledge and experience in health and safety procedures for children and parents within the educational environment. This involves strict supervision of the children within the educational setting. I have experience in teaching across all year groups and I have the confidence to keep discipline. Experience My early placement was at Rebecca Cheetham Nursery and Education Centre. There I was faced with the challenge to apply the learned theories in practice and the gained experience made me aware of the age group changing activities and learning developments. At Rebecca Cheetham Nursery and Education Centre I have the possibility to incorporate a "float" role which involved changing nappies, providing regular snacks and supervising children's activities. My other placement was in Ranelagh Primary School in Newham. Working where added to my enhancing teaching experience and I was allowed to undertake additional management tasks and monitoring other members of the staff. The Ranelagh Primary School in Newham was a contrasting experience, because it had a multicultural environment and diverse social aspects. What I benefitted most there was the irreplaceable experience to teach children from various cultural and social background and to teach them how to interact with each other. Trying to construct the individuality in every child, while addressing his uniqueness is a rewarding education practice. My first teaching experiece was as a volunteer. My responsibilities included teaching and assisting the developmental progress of children from 3 - 5 years of age. I was able to plan, prepare, assess and deliver activities, which were appropriate to meet the needs of the children. Maintaining daily records was required to follow children's social, physical and behavioural progress. I am a GTP trainer teacher and while working as a teaching assistant at Plaistow Primary school I have worked with children from Nursery age to the age of 6. The job position required working with children who have communication, physical and behavioural difficulties. My daily responsibility includes satisfying the basic needs of the children as well as developing their personalities and skills. Since this is a multi-cultural school both children and parents were assisted with English language where necessary. I have also had an experience working in KS2 when I was working at Plaistow Primary School and I will also be doing a block after Easter in a KS2 class. Throughout the five year work period at Plaistow Primary School the most challenging and rewarding experience was to work with children who display behaviour difficulties. I believe working with these children made me more patient and tolerable. This gave me the opportunity to apply appropriate sanctions according to the school behaviour policy. In order to promote positive learning environment I used rewards on individual basis. I consider working with children with behaviour difficulties one of my strengths. I have also organized school clubs such as Art and Homework club. In Art club I provided children with primary experience in working with clay, pastels, paint and other products. This helped them develop their imagination and drawing abilities. Homework club provided children with the opportunity receive support when completing their homework tasks on a daily basis. Currently I have had the opportunity to teach children in a small group. This required the teacher and me to discuss children's learning and any major concerns and issues that can arise. While teaching I employed different approaches to the teacher and ensured that children have grasped the basics of the subject. I had the opportunity to assess children's reading and writing skills through the appropriate assessment criteria sheet. Therefore I was able to provide feedback to the class teacher and to recommend any future targets. Knowledge and understanding I have up to date knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum, The Renewed Framework for Literacy and Numeracy as well as QCA documents. I am planning guided reading sessions for children with special educational needs. Bringing creativity into learning guarantees that children will stay motivated, stimulated and will enjoy the learning process. I am aware that each child possesses individual learning style and I always aim to personalize my teaching. This involves assessing, planning and identifying children's individual learning styles and providing them with the opportunity to learn through the learning style they are comfortable with. In addition, I am competent in literacy and numeracy strategies and their implementations in the classroom setting. I am confident in using ICT, multimedia programs and devices such as Edorols, Podium, PSP's and data loggers. My work duties at Plaistow Primary school included working with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and English as Additional Language (EAL) children, individually or in groups. I have also effectively planned and implemented programmes such as Early Learning Support (ELS), Additional Learning Support (ALS), Phonological Awareness Training (PAT), Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), 15 minutes per day programme, Rocking and Rolling, Interaction through Music, Nurture group (building children's self esteem and confidence) and Booster Groups (improving their knowledge and understanding on areas they find difficult) and Reading Recovery Programme in year 4. By organizing these programmes I have gained knowledge and understanding on the effectiveness of these programmes on children's achievement how to identify their needs and monitor their progress. I regularly integrate ICT and multimedia programmes into the children's learning and learning intention and can prepare my own teaching resources for all of the above enumerated programmes. I am aware of the current policies in children's health and safety and due to the milticultural teaching environment that I was exposed to I support the equal opportunities that all children should have. Safeguarding and protecting the child is the most essential teacher's responsibility, which I have mastered in my work experience. Key Skills and attributes In class, I am able to plan independently or undertake instructions to teach subjects according to the teachers' learning objectives. I am striving to create an inspiring learning environment and to ensure that children are taught through a diverse cross - curriculum. I have extensive skills in incorporating interactive games within the school environment. This involves building curriculum areas such as a bank for numeracy corner, a pyramid so that children can read inside, an interactive plant and dual language labels for science and role play areas. While working at Plaistow Primary School I was given the opportunity to develop professionally and personally. My existing expertise has been drawn upon and extended and my weaknesses challenged me to seek improvement. I have a pro-active personality and I meet challenges with a sense of self-commitment. I am looking for the next professional opportunity to show my qualifications and personal competence and to contribute for the development of the community. Through working and teaching children I found my calling in life, because children are the future of every community. Taking care and guiding children in their learning progress is one of the most rewarding experiences a teacher can have. I believe as a teacher, it is important to promote a positive and purposeful environment where every member of the school community has the opportunity to contribute to the common goal - to raise our children in a loving and caring way. I believe that by promoting cultural differences and various beliefs, I can contribute to the creation of sustainable learning environment for all children. Since I have already worked in the Newham I have a strong commitment to continue my teacher's development there. I believe that my education, professional and work experience demonstrate my high qualifications and desire to progress my teachers' career in Newham. Read More
