Action Research Project Lessons Acquired From the Process The action research project (ARP) on the disabilities among high school students involving the analysis of standardized test scores enhanced my approach strategies to eliminate challenges faced by students with disabilities in my classroom. Through my ARP, I was able to develop internal cognitive action that impact on testing and grading high school students with physical and slight mental disabilities. Remarkably, was able to understand the importance of co-teaching in inclusive classes opposed to the traditional approach of separating with disabilities from the regular classes. Moreover, the process augmented my knowledge on the significance of ensuring that students with disabilities are subjected to adequate subject comprehension and accommodation of their special needs in the testing and grading system. The academic, social, and behavioral success of high school students with disabilities entirely relies on the teachers inclusive strategies in the classroom. I am confident that through my research results, I have gained enormous skills and knowledge that are necessary to ensure effective collaboration among teachers and good student-teacher relationship in an inclusive classroom. Furthermore, the ARP trained me as professional to come up with problem statement and back the problem with literature review from other authors. Consequently, the process has improved my personal and professional knowledge on ensuring equal education for all s irrespective of the existence of students with disabilities in classroom. Equal education for all in inclusive will ensure students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to succeed in tests as the regular students. I will be able to conduct my professional care in different ways such as encouraging my students that exhibit physical and slight mental disability to actively participate in inclusive classroom proceedings from the knowledge gained throughout the ARP. I will provide after school programs to student with disabilities to obtain the extra remediation they need to pass class ad end-of-course exam. Additionally, I will come up with effective co-teaching strategies to ensure that every student in my inclusive classroom including students with disabilities comprehends adequate background information on subject through collaborating with my co-teachers. I will ensure that I will follow the comprehensive evaluation and assessment process rather than just the normal grading system. Furthermore, I will ensure effective parental involvement for the student with disabilities underscoring tests and arrange frequent meetings with them to discuss strategies to ensure their children’s academic, social, and behavioral success. Recommendation “Strive to understand the problem you plan to research on and not proving it at the earliest time possible of the graduate program.” This is one of my recommendations to students entering the process of action research project. The main purpose of an ARP is to promote professional and personal actions by use of the problem statement and planning matrix. Most importantly, a student staring the process should chose a rather specific section research question or topic. The students should be ready to dig deep reviews of a particular problem to come up an appropriate understanding of the concept before conducting the action plan. Considerably, most students strive to pass the ARP unit for their academic devotions. However, this should not be the case and the students in pursuit of undertaking this process should focus on gaining professional and personal knowledge and skills on the area of action plan. Aspects that would have improved my ARP My action research project was successful in portraying the learning challenges that students with disability face throughout their education process especially substantial failure to pass tests. However, a number of factors would have made my action research project more successful. Conducting my research over an increased period would have yielded more accurate results on the performance of students with disability in comparison to regular students’ results. Another factor that would have contributed to a more successful ARP would be conducting a standardized test experiment apart from the curriculum test involving students with disabilities and regular students. Finally, conducting interviews among students with disability on standardized tests would have made the ARP more successfully. New Discovery of Resources and Skills A number of new skills were discovered from the action. Additionally, I discovered new resources that would aid in helping high school students with disability succeed in terms of academics, socially, and behaviorally. First, I discovered that incorporating adaptation for student with disability is not focused on infringing the curriculum standards, but to help students with disability comprehend class content equally as regular students. Secondly, I was able to discover the skill of collaborative and multi-disciplinary evaluation and assessment of inclusive classrooms. Third, holding frequent classroom meetings and parental involvement in the learning process contribute substantially to the success of students with disabilities (Bradley et al., 2002). Lastly, I discovered resources such as audio recording, reading aid equipment, and recorded classes in CD help content comprehension students with disability. Challenges A number of challenges arose during my action research planning and implementation. The marginal course materials facilitated most of these challenges because of it shallow explanation on how to conduct a detailed action research paper. I was able to overcome this problem by digging deep to the library review materials on action research project that helped to organize my action research paper in a clear, effective, and comprehensive manner. Another challenge faced was acquiring the appropriate resources to conduct the research action plan such as an institution that was willing to give me statistical tests results of their students and current assessment tools. I was able to overcome this challenge by taking advantage of my position as a teacher and observed my own students whereby I was able to collect data on their results. Only one facilitator monitored the action research project among a number of students, which posed a considerable challenge. I was able to overcome this challenge by constantly posting action research project related question to the discussion forum where I received the appropriate answers from the facilitator and other enlightened colleagues. Conclusion My completion of the action research project was challenging, involving, life changing moment and rewarding. Education professionals have a mandate to ensure that students with disability in high school have equal opportunities to excel as regular students. Currently, there are appropriate evaluation and assessment tools that can be used to grade students with disabilities. Implementing the recommendations and strategies presented in my action research paper will include a curriculum that provides equal academic success opportunities to all students an inclusive environment.
