In the present-day globalized competitive scenario, business organizations need to be proactive in their thinking and actions to avoid the risk of losing the market. The proactive measures must be such that the customers are satisfied and the organization is strengthened in emerging and potential areas. Failure in achieving this leads to loss of competitive advantage followed by financial loss for the organization. The proactive thinking required is based on facts and data analysis of the facts of the organization.

The data analysis in an organization is a crucial task and is done by the management accountant. The amount of data that has to be handled in an organization is huge and the analysis is not an easy process. The data in an organization needs to be organized in an appropriate manner so that they are readily available for the objective analysis by the accountant. The structuring of data has to be based on certain models that support structured storage. Though many commercial models are available, most organizations go for in-house models supported by appropriate software models.

Boerner, H. (2007) states that no commercial model can satisfy the end-to-end data analysis and other requirements of the organization. Now the question is, who is responsible to create this model and integrate it with the commercial models for enhanced data analysis and strategic planning? Few organizations may opt for external agencies that have experts to build these models. These external agencies lack in the internal business processes of the client organization. Hence only the internal experts could do a better job in integrating the data of their organization.

With respect to the financial and strategic management of an organization, a traditional management accountant plays a vital role in the organization. Management accounting contributes directly to the strategic planning of an organization.
