PIPELINING: ENCOURAGE OTHERS THROUGH THEIR PROFESSIONAL PATHWAY- A GROUNDED THEORY STUDY Abstract This study was conducted using classic grounded theory. Primarily, grounded theory is an inductive research methodology that derives theory from a systematic approach of comparative analysis of data. This approach focuses on generating concepts and theory directly from empirical data rather than using existing theory, pre-defined concepts, or hypotheses. Using this methodological approach, I derived the theory of “pipelining.” Pipelining identifies and explains phases of negotiation and navigation that individuals use to traverse through an...
Pipelining explains basic behavior patterns that people experience in a new environment as they go through the learning process of their chosen career. The pipelining process also enhances their decision making in daily responsibilities and stressful situations experienced later on in their career development. Pipelining is a holistic approach for engaging, maintaining, and sustaining values which impact individual and organization efficiency and mission accomplishment. The pipelining process consists of three major behavioral phases: selecting, journeying and extending.

The selecting phase comprises strategies one uses to join a pipeline or move from one pipeline to another— individual engaging, mentoring engaging and organizational engaging are categories of the selecting phases; journeying comprises strategies individuals develop while traveling through the pipeline for success—individual transforming, mentoring transforming and organizational transforming are categories of the journeying phases; and finally, the extending phase consist of strategies, which develop the knowledge, skills and attributes learned in earlier phases, in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the career over a lifetime. Individual stabilizing, mentoring stabilizing and organizational stabilizing are categories of the extending phases. Although this study was focused on lieutenants in officer basic training, the research has far-reaching application individuals pursuing career paths in other environments. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Bandura's Philosophy Theory

His memories are an accumulation of yesterdays. In yesterday's are written his dealings to others and to himself. He finds life more meaningful in the lives of others. His reason for living is to serve others because he learns more of himself by dealing, relating with and loving others. Hence his motto in life is: “Do to others what he wants others to do to him.”

Bandura’s theory confirms the reality of the experience. A man needs mirroring of others to tell him whether what he is doing is fine or not. The wife is the best critic of the husband and vice versa. This is what makes marriage a wonderful ground for discovery for the two is made into one yet uniqueness of each is still there.

Securitisation and the International Relations Theory

The other aspects under investigation in this paper are the importance of the notion of security to the theory of international relations and its application to the facilitation of the process of international communication.

There exist several theories of security, which will be regarded in this paper. Among them is traditional security theory, which is regarded as the realist construct of security under which the object of security is the state and was applied during the period of the Cold War. Later this type of security evolved into human security, which is concerned more with the security of the single individual rather than the security of the state. I will present several theories of securitization and see how th...

Economic Theory: Reducing Pollution and Global Warming

Many of the economies based on capitalism may not favor the workings of free trade as they are developing towards self-sufficiency. Furthermore, these capitalistic economies may not even support fair trade, as it may seem that all the poorer countries may destroy or exhaust all of their natural resources to get rich in a very short period of time. Poorer countries would then eventually be more responsible for a shortage in the supply of these scarce resources and more importantly- will be adding huge problems in controlling environmental issues such as global warming and pollution (Hackett, 2001). However, these thoughts may also be disagreed, as, in recent years, there has been a tremendous effort and attempts to fuse the environ...

Country Study: Mali

The territory of Mali has had a great history. We have been centers of the Ghana Empire, the Mali Empire, and the Songhai Empire for about six centuries. Thereafter, during the 17th and 18th centuries, several small states developed along the Niger basin, but they fell during the holy war waged by Muslim leader Al-Hajj Umar, whose kingdom extended from Timbuktu to headwaters of Niger and Senegal. His successor, Ahmadu was defeated by the French in 1860. (http://us-africa.tripod.com /mali.html)

As is well-known, we have had a turbulent past. We were a French colony for 80 years until we achieved independence. Now we are a multi-party democracy with Presidential form of Government. While the executive power rests with the...

International Trade Theory

Further to this, it is also believed that international trade can bring substantial economic welfare to the countries however still most of the countries do not view it as a favorable thing. Despite having a very promising and bright outlook, international trade has been largely viewed with suspension and it is because of this that governments impose barriers to restrict international trade. There can be many reasons behind this act of imposing restrictions or blocking international trade however there are also benefits on the other side too.

International trade has driven the attention of many of the brilliant minds in economics therefore the origins of the economic theory on international trade owe much to the c...

Social Theory in a Globalizing Age

A comparison between the followers of social theories and the followers of natural sciences (physics and chemistry) revealed that unlike followers of natural sciences social theorists don’t use any techniques to show the exact knowledge or skill. Instead, they prove their work or idea by suggesting a possible way of explaining the facts or arguments usually called hypotheses (Lemert, 2004).
By hypotheses, social theorists cannot easily prove their argument at a time but they require time to prove it. Social theorists are normally criticized for using the hypotheses. Deconstructionists or postmodernists, rigidly critical theorists, disagree with the criticism by mentioning that any research methodology is not 100% pure a...

Depending on Others: Two Differing Viewpoints Examined

Waiting for Godot has an ambivalent attitude toward dependency.  It would seem as though it was just a condition that couldn’t be escaped from in life. Estragon and Vladimir, the two main characters, are two people who are entirely dependent upon each other. Estragon and Vladimir, the two main characters, are two people who are entirely dependent upon each other. Estragon even needs help in removing his boots: “Ah stop blathering and help me off with this bloody thing”1. Vladimir seems aware of these aspects of their relationship, as he says to Estragon, “You’d be nothing more than a heap of bones at the present minute, no doubt about it” 2. However, Vladimir seems to be every bit as depend...

The Promotion of Sustainability through Schools

The promotion of sustainability through schools and other educational sites can be characterized as rather satisfactory; however, additional efforts should be made in order to increase the interest of learners on environment-related issues. The role of teachers in the success of this effort will be decisive. In accordance with the study of Olson's (2007, online article) ‘research shows that teachers matter more to student learning than any other school-related factor; yet the effectiveness of individual teachers varies widely’. In other words, teachers and school administrators are expected to have a central role in the promotion of sustainability in education – including its higher levels. On the other hand, res...

Explaining White-Collar Crime through Sykes and Matzas Neutralization Techniques and Mertons Anomie

Modern criminology indicates that the term is of no limitation by referencing to types of crime, which could be enumerated as a crime by the time of the offense, by the type of offender, and by organizational culture (Cote 2002, p. 202). White-collar crimes are generally not associated with poverty or pathologies relating to it. The legal definition of crime is viewed as the only definition of crime, in which the behavior being examined is punishable by law (Sutherland 1949, p. 84).

Sutherland (1949, p. 84) claims that persons belonging to the upper socioeconomic class are involved in such criminal behavior, which is characterized as different from the criminal behavior in which the lower socioeconomic class engage in p...

Developing Professional Practice Portfolio

I work in a very busy outpatient department that includes many different clinic settings.  Most recently, the oral surgery, maxillo-facial surgery, and plastic surgery departments have become part of our directorate as a result of reorganization with in the trust. Although I have always considered myself to be a competent, confident professional, I found working in this reorganized department very stressful. The unit seemed to be very poorly organized with staff shortages and inadequate facilities. I was most surprised to discover that there were no documented records for patient wound care services provided in the clinic. I found this latter situation to be unacceptable from a professional standpoint. Some of the patients in...
