These days, cultural norms are rapidly shifting. We used to equate growing up with the ability to function independently. These days, always-on connection leads us to reconsider the virtues of a more collaborative self. All questions about autonomy look different if on a daily basis, we are together even when we are alone. What is Turkle trying to say? Why do Americans mistrust the American government? Compare Turkles position with the article in the Arthur. Turkle has expressed a critical view of the manner in which the technology and communication has over taken human world and its inhabitants. The book and writing looks at the manner in which our life is being dominated and driven by the digital sphere. The author further stresses on the point that even human emotions have become slave to the technology. She presents an analogy in this case and presents the famous saying by Winston Churchill who famously said that the material which we make, later on drive and dominate us. He had expressed this feeling for the buildings, in modern times this saying aptly fits for the technology. It is a brain child of mankind yet has resulted in subservience of the creator itself (Turkle, 2012). The author further argues that the nature of relations has changed as well and a new form of relationship mechanism is in place which is the online relationship and warmth. It is the technology that creates relations, and many a times ends it without even being introduced properly into the real world scenario. The real world physical existence and dependence on others has totally changed. People are glued to the digital devices and all friends, family are all in one device-the digital box which comes in form of computer, mobile phone or any other digital device that is state of the art enabled. The element of mistrust between the citizens and government is possibly due to the amount of access the government authorities possess with respect to infiltrating into privacy of citizens. The new world dynamics have given the government an unannounced license in the name of national interest and citizens security measures. He further explains the ideas and states that the entire concept is based on innovation, with a chain reaction mechanism, one innovation leading to another and the cycle continues with the present state right in front of us where technology is ubiquitous and has totally brought about the revolution in the manner in which the entire world operates now(Turkle,2011). Brian Arthur also sheds some light on the perspective of technology and its impact on the society. He insists that the changes that have taken place in last fifteen years are all gifts of internet and the subsequent technologies introduced in parallel. Brian Arthur is in agreement with Sherry Tuckle and supports the idea put forth that technology has in true sense made us isolated. The full time connectivity which seems as a real relationship is actually a means of isolation and total reliance and dependence on machine and this relation is of artificial nature. WHAT DOES EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE DESIGN LOOK LIKE (Isaacson) The user does not know what he wants until I tell him what he wants. This was the basic conviction of Steve Jobs. On pages 392 and 393, Isaacson writes: Jobs unveiled the iPod on October 23, 2001, at one of his signature product launch events. "Hint: Its not a Mac"... ... He reached into his jeans and pulled out the gleaming white device. "This amazing little device holds a thousand songs and it goes right in my pocket." He slipped it back in and ambled offstage to applause. .. the iPod became the essence of everything Apple was destined to be: poetry connected to engineering, arts and creativity intersecting with technology, design thats bold and simple. It had an ease of use that came from being an Integrated end-to-end system, from computer to FireWire to device to software to content management. When you took an iPod out of the box, it was so beautiful that it seemed to glow, and it made all other music players look as if they had been designed and manufactured in Uzbekistan. Explain Steve Jobss approach to comprehensive design. Steve jobs, the name and man that is preceded by many names like the innovator, visionary man, an entrepreneur and many more names and qualities define this one charismatic character. If Karl Marx is be attributed to the patronage of socialism and Max Weber to any other theory of sociology, Steve Jobs for sure is the man behind the innovative science in the field of technology that has taken place in last four decades. His innovations speak volumes about him even after he is gone. A recent launch of Apple 5 was the brain child of the incumbent who had introduced this form of technology and experience to the world. He familiarized the world to a new design, new shape, new technology, in short a total new experience of the digital manner in which communications are being held. His expertises were not just limited to mobile phones, as Walter Issacson mentions his one of the many moments where he surprised the world and gifted the people with a totally new product. It was like a magician pulling out a rabbit out of the hat every time there was some announcement regarding a launch of new product. The world media, the stakeholders in the field, the students of technology, the gurus, all would head that way and keep an eye on the day just to see what the man is up to this time. Walter Issacson takes the opportunity to define the moment early in the century when I Pod took the world by storm, not just by being a new product, as the writer mentions it, it was an engineering genius, a piece of art from the eye of science. Further glorifying the experience and giving it value, he totally down plays the rivals who even thought of introducing anything as such and categorically states that they were of no match and looked so meager in front of this technological giant in the name of I pod(Isaacson, 2011). The man has had ups and downs in his career, many a times disputes with his parent company, but one thing that never saw any down ride was his creativity and innovation. Every few years down the lane, he came up with some ingenious product that would take the entire world by storm. The world and this generation particularly has seen a true genius of their age in form of the man known as Steve Jobs. WOULD YOU RATHER BE AT HARVARD? (Kirkpatrick) What do you think of the Facebook story? If you saw the film, how would you compare the film to the Kirkpatrick or the Mezrich book? Is there a person, or are there persons, in the story that you could identify with? What are the various roles in the book that speak to your own personal experience? Face book which actually came out of nowhere is a sparkling story in its own. An inside the university and campus based story that moved the entire world and has it on its dictation now. With in less than 5 years this website is part of every house, every hostel, and every mobile. It has changed the manner in which the communications are being conducted. It has given a new face to social networking. It has left behind all other competitors and is making inroads day in and day out. The movie was based on the novel which gives an insight of what actually happened. It also sheds light on the human behavior, the meanness at times and putting yourself ahead of others. However what we see is from the movie, novel and the entire story is a story of motivation, determination, and selfishness to a certain percentage. The film is slightly a synopsis or more or less shrunk version of what is a detailed and elaborative form of the novel. The novel gives us an in depth insight in to what actually happened and what led to the occurrence of events. Mark zukerberg split with his friends, the reason to the rivalry and then the twin brothers claim also gives extra crisp to the movie and entire plot. Hence it made up a best recipe for a movie and without any wonder, the movie made it to hit lists. Not only the acting and performances, but the entire script which was actually based on the real events made it a success all over just like the website itself. The face book story in a way is an encouragement for all those who believe that small goals can be converted into bigger ones. This same case at hand took place in a small campus and spread its webs across the globe in no time. Face book in general is a website that has over taken all other competitors. Like I pod did to its competitors, Face book has outsmarted its competitors. Before this it was Orkut that ruled the proceedings, now its this de facto website that has everything at its finger tips.
