Experiencing a Different Level of Sociality in the dream of London Experiencing a Different Level of Sociality in the dream City of London Introduction The social setup of England is much more formalized and sophisticated in nature (Fligstein, Polyakova, & Sandholtz 2012). The rest of the world is historically known to copy and imitate the ethical standards of the English culture. The humanity’s contemporary ethics are believed to be emanating from the featured society. The social parties in the English community are very organized and therefore, participants are anticipated to behave in a very civilized manner. The experience of attending a social gathering in London was a pleasurable and enjoyable one. The American culture and social norms are very divergent from those prevalent in the English community. The American social rules permit certain level of disorganization and less formality (Maureen & Sandra 2013). The essence of American community is embedded in the need for allowing people to express themselves and their feelings and emotions. The American culture is developed with the help of submerging different cultural and national identities and therefore, the society is exhibiting various colors of different cultures and societies. The English nation on the other hand, is famous for having its roots in formalization. The English are more than happy to uphold their family names and honors. The societal norms are designed to fulfill the abovementioned need. The historical context must be taken into account in order to understand the marked differences in both of the featured societies. The social occasions are identified as an effective and efficient measure of understanding cultural outlook of the community. I have observed while attending a party in London that youngsters were heavily guarded from socializing with strangers. The behaviors of the juniors were also strictly regulated and monitored by elders. The youngsters are also encouraged to exchange pleasantries with close family friends with passing on physical clues such as raising an eyebrow for pointing out a behavioral flaw (Jin & Li 2013). The youngsters’ conversations were interrupted by elders on more than one occasion as they were heading in the wrong direction. The humans are always noticed to seek legitimization of their actions from the society. However, in the case of English community, the need for acceptability is much higher than that in the American one (Muntaner 2013). The American parties are more rocking in style and therefore, the groupings form naturally. The participants from the same age groups hang out together. The individual behaviors are not guided intensively. The historical need and want of American society to accommodate people from number of cultures is being consistently translated in accommodative societal and normative behaviors and attitudes. The American society’s ability to produce artists and scholars is supported and enhanced by relaxed societal norms (Sousa, Martins, & Fernandesa 2013). The concept and idea of participative and open book management grew out of American culture because of its tendency to give everyone the basic and fundamental right of self-representation and freedom of speech. The English corporate culture is recognized as more rigid and due to this reason, the companies operating in the country are observed to follow a machine metaphor towards organizational existence and culture. The country is therefore, plagued with tall organizations with high formalization. The England in the view modern social scientists is being run in the light of old and outdated managerial concepts and therefore, its poor performance as a nation is understandable. The personal freedoms are denied in the name of culture and norms. The people are not allowed to speak their mind. They are being herded like mindless animals. The elders feel proud and take credit for training the next generation to be civilized. Nevertheless, the senior citizens are not aware of the fact that they are indeed killing future of their nation by own hands. The out of box thinking is treated as the secret of survival in the modern era of the 21st century (Naranjo-Valencia, Jiménez-Jiménez, & Sanz-Valle 2011). The self confidence and image is needed to do things differently. But, my observation of the English society reveals that the generation Y and baby boomers are purposely engaged in destroying the ability to innovate in the next generation. The self confidence and image are known to be fostered by giving individuals the opportunities to face large crowds and speak their minds without fear. The innovational thinking and entrepreneurial skills are considered and treated as the essentials of economic and scientific development and growth. The English corporate and scientific societies are failing to play their due and important roles in the process of carrying on the growth. The behaviors and attitudes in a single party educated me about the living conditions in the country. The educational system also appears to be dogmatized by status quo. The home environment is also not supportive in the direction of developing self initiative and development (Williams & Filippakou 2010). The experience that I had recently impressed me to think that England is becoming a nation of nervous and suppressed humans and therefore, its collective ability and power to forge in the technological arena of the modern world is going to diminish in the future as well. The family culture and norms are treated as the units that form the shared social psychological systems and from what I have witnessed, the society of England somehow lost track of substance and it is following the structure. The elders are unwilling to learn new and novel things as they are of the view that the next generation must follow them. The elders of England are seemingly challenging the most sacred human trend that identifies the next generation as the center of newness. The elders are there for guiding the youngsters to look, observe and study and build their own and private perceptional reality. The elders that are engaged in forcing their beliefs upon youngsters are condemned by the literature of sociology. Nevertheless, I ended up observing that females are raised and guided by their mothers while males are brought up by their fathers. The lack of childhood contact with the counter-sex causes juniors to become rebellious regarding mixed teams in the organizations. In the light of above discussion, it can be painfully established that English youngsters are being raised in a poor environment where they are not permitted to explore themselves and the possibility of self-discovery is minimal in the given scenario. On a personal note, I have initially found the environment of the party orderly and disciplined. However, the perception withered away as soon as I noticed operational elbows at the first sign of perceived trouble. The humans have a profound ability and need to express. The basic and fundamental need of self-presentation is suppressed in order to uphold cultural norms that are outdated to say the least. The readers may assume that I have been assuming a lot when it comes to judging the English culture. As a student of sociology and psychology, I have managed to develop certain type of instincts that can give me a great deal of information about one’s attitude and behavior. The next generation was suppressed so that they can appear more impressed by local tradition. But, I am sure of the fact that these youngsters do not behave in a civilized manner in school because there they are exposed to relatively relaxed environment and therefore, they may engage in bullying and irritating the teacher and the fellow pupils. According to psychological research, the children who become subject to domestic violence and parental mistreatment are more likely to experience long-term mental problems and issues. Most of them are believed to become sadists as they gather pleasure from paining others (Follingstad 2011). The so-called advanced society of England is somehow using outdated concepts of exercising tight control over their children. My observations suggest that the parents in the society of England are seeking recognition of their social circle by having children with a traditional mindset. The time is approaching when the elders will have to let go of their offspring as they will choose their own ways towards life. The senior members of the next generation to whom I had a talk, appear to be irritated by the need to follow dress-code whereas, they were increasingly getting bored by needless social formalities (Pavlicevic, ONeil, Powell, Jones, & Sampathianaki 2013). The music that was being played was attributed as pathetic by one of the females who were experiencing difficulty in terms of maintaining proper balance in her high heels. The next generation is getting more and more bizarre with the so-called traditions and therefore, it is only the matter of time when they are going to challenge the English ways openly. A few of them also mentioned that American parties are more fun. As a response, I quietly became enlightened about the youngsters’ need for fun. Then, I took a second to think that hey! we all need parties in order to have fun while, the parties like this are meaningless as they cause boredom. The realization compelled me to retire early and I headed directly to the nearest bar and I had a bear. After that, I came back to my hotel room where, I took a shower in the hope of washing the experience away. But I failed to do so and I felt an urge to document the occurrence. I developed a raw draft and refined it over the past few months so that it can become capable of being submitted in the class in the form of a final project. The social gathering was painful for me as I was an outsider and because of this reason, my irritation and annoyance was understandable and predictable to some extent. But, the unfulfilled need for fun of locals came to me as a surprise. The elders participating in the parties were not bothered by the sentiment of global village that is causing the culture of the entire world to converge. The notion of fun and enjoyment is strongly related to high pulse music and loose dresses (McManus & Furnham 2010). The party that I attended was a poor attempt to uphold traditional ways of having enjoyment. The socialization needs are going through a significant level of change and due to this reason; elders are strongly recommended to try to meet new and emerging needs of their offspring while planning parties. The change is the only constant that is known to the world and therefore, those who are failing to embrace it are travelling on the road of damnation. The children are spending their lives in massive pressure and stress while, the notion of partying means disorganizing and having fun to them. The traditional parties are going to cause the bad condition to become even worst. Conclusion This paper reviewed the nature of a party that I recently attended in London. The party appeared to be exciting in opening few minutes and then, it got extremely boring. I felt that I am feeling rotten from the inside in isolation. But, soon I found out that the major number of participants was feeling that way. The notion of partying is strongly associated with fast music and disorganization and the English version of a party needs some Americanization. The experience guided me to respect and tolerate cultural differences of other nations and countries. The spirit of collaboration is at the heart of globalizing workforce. The featured social event helped me in brushing on my social observation skills that are very important when working an socially and culturally alien world. The notion of “Live in Rome as Romans do” has been adequately understood by me during the event. I would like to mention my profound ability to set aside my negative feelings of anxiety and anger while, throwing myself into the spirit f the party. Finally, I have gathered sufficient international exposure and it was however, I believe to be first of many more. Nevertheless, I came to appreciate cultural differences and this I suppose, is the essence of international workforce in the present times. Additionally, I am aware of the fact that employees quit their jobs when they are posted to a new country because of cultural shock and therefore, my learning of abovementioned cliché will help me adjust to the new environment when the time will come in near future. The English society should allow youngsters to have more fun and enjoyment so that they can have catharsis on a consistent basis. The school and college environment must also be transformed into a conductive one towards creativity and innovation. Additionally, English must learn to accommodate and appreciate the development of personal truth in the next generation. The ability of accumulating data, analyzing it and developing interpretation is the essence of humanity. The development of thinking capacity in youngsters is an imperative to support futuristic need of innovation that has the power and ability to throw England on the track of development once again. The elders are needed to show flexibility and tolerance in order to stimulate the process of intellectual development in the next generation. The traditional concepts of race upon which the entire English society is base, has become meaningless in the 21st century. The 21st century is the era when humanity is moving towards institutionalizing global citizenship and therefore, equality is going to become a defining attribute of humans in the near future.
