One of my primary interests in this field revolves around its dynamism and pace. The only constant in the world of law is change, with fast moving events and professional trends. Therefore, I have realised that the only opportunity I might have as regards experiencing the challenges of finding solutions to problems in a cost effective, practical and efficient manner is by doing it as a solicitor, and going into legal problems where there is tremendous scope to achieve the impossible. The reason I chose to work with Rollits under a training contract, was to gain the experience of working in a commercial law firm.
In the time I spent there, I managed to fit into the routine where every trainee solicitor was required to spend at least four months in every department of the firm. After this, I was given the opportunity to utilise my final four months in any department of my choice. This process not only made my work more interesting, it also brought me into close contact with various aspects of the legal business and a variety of people – this was especially important to my overall experience as I believe, that in this field, contact with various kinds of people helps enrich your career and knowledge base.
Apart from this, the team work made a great impact on my personal and professional perspective of things; an impact that has a subtle influence on the way I deal with my case loads. Also, towards the end of my tenure there, I realised where my niche lay and that revelation did a lot to boost my confidence in choosing to enter this field. After investing the time and effort to analyse the profiles of various training solicitors at other firms, I found that they left soon after the end of their training tenures in favour of "greener" pastures.
What I found though, was that most of them seemed to have fared contrary to their expectations in the real world of case loads and experienced solicitors as close competitors. This being the obvious reason, another one that contributed to my choice of staying on at Rollits is the fact that it is a developing firm which filled me with expectations of entering employment and career development opportunities. Apart from the academic ability to back my credentials and the application that you have in your hands, I would like to stress on the fact that demanding as it is, the LLB Degree that I have achieved has given me the strength of traits like the improvement of my analytical skills as well as communication, planning, organising and time management skills.
The development of these traits has helped to a great extent in my current employment at Verna Community Care Centre - the perfect answer for the social service streak that I have always had. At Verna, through close contact with families, I have been surrounded by opportunities to improvise on my written and oral communication skills considering the fact that I deal with clients over the telephone and am required to log each call. This might be of more than subtle importance, as I have recognised the need to be able to deliver these traits effectively as a solicitor.
Further, I have the ability to fit in and work as a team member as I am doing at Verna Community Care. On instances where there is an emergency call, as a team we decide who will attend - occasionally I have been left on my own. In such situations, I have
