Before the Great Depression
Life is great. I just won a boxing fight and the prize fight these days are terrific. Since I have more than enough money, I think my wife Mae will be surprised for this jewelry present for her. I know it is not her birthday but it would make a great surprise to give this to her because I know she had been eyeing this in the jewelry store the last time we went there.

Advent of the Great Depression (October 29, 1929)
I am a boxer so I am not really familiar with the stock market works. I heard this Black Tuesday stock market crash (blacktuesday.org) that sent business into bankruptcy. Companies are beginning to lay-off employees. I heard my neighbor Joe just lost his job and I’m worried that this might affect boxing because people will no longer have spare money to buy its door tickets.

The Great Depression
It is difficult to believe that America can sink into this poverty. Almost everybody I know lost their jobs and I think that includes me already because I do not have prize fights anymore. Bills are piling up while I am not making any money.
Selling the house
It pains me but I had to sell the house. Prize fights are no longer coming because people can no longer afford to pay boxing matches. Promoters are getting conservative and are rarely staging prize fights if any. There had been no more prize fights for me but our bills continue to pile up. My family had to eat and it breaks my heart that children are now getting hungry because we didn’t have any more money to buy food. I just hope that when the economy recovers, I can again a buy a house to shelter my family.
I sold the house less than its acquisition price because I am desperate for money and there are just not enough buyers. I took the highest bid on the house which is not really high enough to at least recoup the money I spent to buy it (Thapar 139). But at least we have enough money to settle our debts and a little something more to tide us over this crisis. Hopefully this economic depression will soon be over before my money runs out. After the money run out This Great Depression is lethal. It is killing the soul of every American. The proceeds from the sale of the house are already gone and work at the pier as a longshoreman is getting scarcer. I am a strong man and I cannot understand why I have to go to Social Security to ask for money. But I had to. But even that ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

... Section/# A New Home: Thailand Travel and life abroad have always been topics that have captured my attention. As a result of this, I have long had a strong desire to move overseas and begin to truly explore the new horizons that such a life change could offer to me. Naturally, before any real move can or should take place, the individual (in this case this particular author) should take careful consideration of all of the factors involved in such a move and seek to paint an adequate and relevant picture of what life in a foreign setting might necessarily entail and how it could ultimately differ from life within the United States. As a way of performing such an analysis, this brief reflection and analysis will look... Section/# A New Home:...

Memoir

...?ENGL 1301 – Composition Essay One Vanessa Sur February 25, Memoir When I was a young girl I always envisioned being swept off my feet by my prince charming and living happily ever after. Looking back I can say that this was only a natural feeling for any young girl, but perhaps I should have been more aware of the curveballs that life can throw at us. While I was still a teenager, I entered into a relationship with a young man who would end up going on to become the father of my first child. The fact that I had a daughter at the age of twenty was not really a challenge but rather a joy. Even though I split from my then boyfriend not longer after I had the baby, I still held out hope that I would find my prince charming...

Memoir Assignment

...MEMOIR Albert Schweitzer once said: “There is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed” (ServiceQuotations). Hello, I am Eun Soo Lim from the Republic of Korea. In this memoir I would like to dwell at length on a memorable incident I shared with my halmoni (that’s ‘grandmother’ in Korean language) that vividly depicts how fervently she adopted this dictum as her mission in life. My grandmother and I were returning to our city Seoul by bus after visiting our relatives in a village on the West Coast. I was eight years old at that time. It was around 10 o’clock in the morning when the accident occurred. While traversing one of the many narrow mountain...

...An Autobiography Order No:184694 No: of pages: 5 Premium – 6530 Eric September 24th, 2007 A Memoir of Personal Life Changes Not may people love change! To change means, uprooting oneself from a familiar, comfortable and safe environment, and being cast onto unfamiliar and dangerous ground. Though living and learning are natural components of human life, yet, not many people relish the idea of being dug out from your protected corner and planted in the most uncertain of all places. If a person is faced by such a situation, then, they not only grow and adapt to their environments but also learn from them. More often than not, these are naturally occurring ways and means, which are customary to each and every individual,...

Food Memoir

...Food brings families together Family meal-time has its own importance. Those are the times we realize the importance of having a family. Those are the moments when you extend and receive love, when you share anxieties and when you just let yourself go. Food brings families together! Food has always been an important part of our family. I remember as a child, the mornings were always busy. Except for Sundays, we never had breakfast together. My school started early and mom used to be busy trying to set things in order for me for my dad and for my little brother. Breakfast was always rushed but what we waited for was the dinner time. My grandmother made sure that all of us were present for dinner together. Today we cherish those... brings...

Memoir

...Memoir In my family, each member’s birthday is a very important event, and there is a tradition that we celebrate birthdays at home. I do not even remember when this tradition was established; I guess it was before I was born. As long as I remember myself, it was only a couple of times that we did not celebrate birthdays all together at home for circumstances were just so. However, at one time that I celebrated my birthday not at home, in the bosom of my family, circumstances were not the key factor. In fact, it was my wish to do so. One of my close friends and I have birthdays on the same day. Usually, I used to celebrate my birthday at home and only call my friend to wish him a happy birthday. One day, as we...

... Childhood Memory I do not remember exactly the particular day but all I remember was that it was very humid and the sky was cloudy. It was just a few days before I joined first grade and I had just arrived home from my neighbors. I was utilizing my last few days of freedom and hence was tired and hungry. I had rushed home looking forward to my grandmother’s food and playing time. This had been my routine from kindergarten and it never bored me to say the least. I was however shocked as our house was full of strange people dressed in white clothes and others were crying. My nanny saw me and took me in her arms and tried explaining that my beloved grandmother had passed away and the people were mourning for her. My grandmother... Childhood...
