Question 1
For scores of years, businesses/businesspersons have donated money for community causes that help people within the society to meet their everyday needs. Actually, scores of businesses maintain devoted departments for corporate social responsibility whose only task is to identify communities with which the company will support. Based on advantages, donation for community causes may lead to increased revenue as well as visibility. Evidently, increased visibility is the biggest pro given to businesses/businesspersons that donate for community causes. In exchange for a monetary donation, the business logo as well as name is incorporated on all advertisement, mailings, and other promotional material created by the company. What’s more, these donations improve the charitable image of the business. Arguably, donating to worthy community causes, like those that combat disease or poverty, and cultural institutions, like the art museum leads to an improved corporate image on the eyes of the public.
However, donations can come with shortcomings; for instance, direct donation can hold back the organisational goals. Evidence indicate that direct donations, or those generated through pure money donations can make it hard for a business to essentially change what it desires to change. What’s more, if a business resolves to pursue a route that is longer and spend money in the community itself, afterwards there will be numerous disadvantages. For instance, the business has to create a team and resolve how much money to offer and where it must be offered to generate the most impact. Donations decisions have an effect on not just the project length, but as well on the advertising that goes together with it. Ultimately, the business has to be ready to use money, time, as well as decision-making power on a cause that lack direct benefits. I believe that businesspersons and community leaders are better prepared to decide what communities need since they live amongst the community persons and so they do understand their daily setback and what can be done to overcome them.
Question 2
Basically, companies experience a selection of how practical their non-market strategy must be, especially with regard to shaping the changing regulatory frameworks. Evidently, being in a position to influence the game rules by successfully influencing the regulatory milieu will massively impact on profitability as well as competitiveness. The key downsides of a dynamic approach used by business to shape the regulatory framework are: being viewed as over-influencing or corrupting the present political process and making use resources caught up in such activities. Whilst such downsides are bona fide, they are often controllable if the business’ non-market activity is carried out ethically and intelligently. With regard to avoiding being viewed as overly influential or corrupting, most US business are practicing transparency in every supporting regulation as well as political activities that the majority view as backing the greater good of community. The heightening of business’s influence on US government has over the years been remarkable. Special interest groups as well as Lobbyists representing businesses have grown rapidly and consequently their influence have increased. Scores are supporting this trend and suppose that money has become free speech in US, and this has resulted in the government representing business more as compared to how is represents people. As a result, the gap between rich and poor has continued to increase drastically, and so it is apparent that the power and influence of the businesses is harmful to US democracy.
Question 3
Hitherto Wall Street firms and individuals have not been criminally investigated, and whether regulators together with prosecutors have been aggressive adequately in pursuing unlawful activity is still a subject of debate. Some years subsequent to the financial crisis, which was largely brought about by careless lending and too much risk taking by key banks, no senior individuals have been imprisoned or charged, and a combined government effort has failed to surface. Past mortgage workers, bankers, prosecutors, and lawyers say that regulators as well as investigators overlooked previous lessons in relation to how to crack fiscal fraud. Basically, when the crisis started being deeper in 2008, the Federal Bureau of Investigation downsized a strategy to allocate more agents at the field to investigate mortgage fraud. The same year, the Justice Department as well discarded calls to institute a task force dedicated to mortgage-associated investigations, leaving such multifaceted cases undermanned and inadequately supported, and just much afterward established a task force for more general financial felonies. Towards the 2008 financial crisis, scores of officials claimed in interviews that regulators failed in their fundamental responsibility to gather the information that conventionally has aided develop criminal cases like this one. To all intents and purposes, the similar dynamic that facilitated allow the crisis (weak regulation) as well made it difficult to pursue fraud in its after effects.
Question 4
The Pennsylvania environmental community has intensified its efforts to coerce the gas industry as well as regulatory agencies to clean up production of natural gas. The community has promoted hard-hitting safeguards and revokes the numerous exemptions granted by the federal that the natural gas industry gets pleasure from (Leber). The Pennsylvania government as well supports communities that desire to curb development of gas and make sure that the development of gas is believe that the natural gas industry is set on fracking Pennsylvania's most valuable asset: state parks, vital areas that supply drinking water, and state forests. Simultaneously, communities across Pennsylvania are protesting to end fracking at the state level, and they are demanding that that their people, water, and air must not be sacrificed to extract natural gas. At first, the U.S. Forest Service did not allowed fracking and horizontal drilling for natural gas within the boundaries of George Washington National Forest, but following pushback from the companies producing natural gas, the Forest Service started re-evaluating their stand. Must not reveal what chemicals they use in the underground pumped fluid to bring the gas up to surface. Undoubtedly, a number of the chemicals utilised in the fracking process might pollute drinking water for scores of Pennsylvania communities and contaminate a number of rivers well renowned for paddling and fishing.
