My Knowledge in Business and Management - Personal Statement Example

My interest in doing business administration grew since I was a little child. I grew up in a family where my parents were both business people. They operated their own company and I have always been inclined in taking in my parent’s business after studying business. I can recall many times how my parents enjoyed working in their business. Sometimes, I would be at home alone and wait for them getting out of work late. Meal times were always filled with them bantering over the latest business strategy. These were interesting moments to me because I was eager to know about the business strategies that they intended to use in their business to prosper. These were experiences that grew my interest in the field of business since I will a young child and being given an opportunity to major in business at the university I will be able to expand my knowledge in these early experiences of business in my life. I will be able to learn the business strategies in class and stop imagining or speculate in my thoughts of what they are or what they were at that time. The one moment that I cannot forget was when my parents were exchanging gifts after achieving a success of business expansion. It was a fascinating moment that helped me learn that when one has a business; one does not have to remain in one position but can expand to whatever level one desires. At this time I started thinking of my own and seeing my future as a business person running a huge business with branches all over the country. My desire for business grew more as I grew and learned more from the experiences of my parents as business people. I always think of how easy my parents are with their emotions all rooted back entirely in the company. These earliest memories of business gave me the initial interest to pursue my parent’s footstep of going into the world of commerce. I think that given the chance to study business administration at the university, it will be my mission to achieving my future dreams to be just like my parents, a successful business person. My interest in business did not come from my parents only. While in high school, I took classes that are related to business. Specifically, I studied subjects like accounting, business education and economics. These were interesting subjects to me as a person who had the vision of becoming a business person. They expanded my knowledge in business and management as well as administration of business in theoretical terms. My performance in these subjects was true evidence that business is my field. From then onwards, I gained knowledge in the different aspects of business and how everything in business relates to another. I realized that to keep a business going, the company must balance all aspects of business. Without balancing these aspects of business in an organization there is a high possibility of the business failing (Frei, 2008). With this affirmation after studying business subjects, I was sure of my future career as a business person and managing my own business. Gaining this knowledge grew my interest to pursue a higher education in the field of business and I will major in business administration in the university to expand this knowledge of business as my passion and dream to achieve in future. During my holidays, I volunteered to work in my parents business as an assistant. This was a time I gained a lot of experience of how it happens in the real world of business. I gained knowledge in how a business can be managed, activities that take place in a business and how to interact with other employees. Being a volunteer helped me learn a lot about business operations. In high school I also participated in business clubs and symposiums. I liked a lot working and engaging with others and learning from them. I also love working with people at a bonded level. These are essential skills I business since human resources are the most valuable assets for a business. I would like to utilize this skill in future as a business person and studying a major in business at the university will provide me with more knowledge on how to work with peers or other employees in the workplace. Personally, I am an outgoing person. I like going to new places and meeting new people and new experiences. I am able to open my views of the world through meeting people from different backgrounds and personalities. This is one personality that I value in me as an aspiring business person. It is a personality that I will utilize in my future in doing business and given the chance to study a major in business administration, I think I will be able to learn a lot from my fellow students and also my lectures through interactions in various business conversations. There is a major challenge that I experienced when I came to the United States. It was this time when I was looking for work at the campus. My expectations and hopes were high that it would be easy that what I was required was only applying and dropping my applications, and then wait for their response of confirmation. It was to my surprise that things were different from what I was hoping, and I did not get the job. Another experience while in the US was when I had a job opening and after going for the interview, they told me they will get back to me as soon as possible. However, they never did, there was not feedback of whether I was qualified or not. These are important experiences to me as I though life to be easy, but to my surprise, it is totally different. There is more than just expectations, what you expect is not what you get. It is important for a person to be ready for positives and negatives. This experience gave a different view of the world and I must be ready to work hard and suffer hardships to achieve success in everything I do. This is a good experience that will help me remember how to take things in life and also in my future as an aspiring business person. By getting a chance to study at the university, I will be able to explore more challenges in life and get to know how to handle them as a good experience for my future. Therefore, getting an opportunity to study a major in business administration will not only help me gain knowledge in my business career but also mould me as a whole person together.
