Bridge to Brisbane Report
1.0 Introduction
QUITIC is relentlessly striving to accomplish the diverse needs of its student fraternity. The QUITIC Expo orientation is a program to help new students with their study transition at QUT. In an attempt to optimize the experience of students on this function, the management of QUTIC has also decided to consider offering the students the opportunity that will help them with their Brisbane’s life transition (www.bridgetobrisbane.com.au). Therefore, various local community bodies were invited to take part in the QUTIC Expo orientation. This paper is therefore a report of the orientation Expo of the bridge to Brisbane fun run.
1.1 Background
The QUTIC orientation program is designed to help students studying at QUT to make effective transition in the Brisbane’s life. As a result, it is regularly striving to accomplish the diverse needs of its students. The event is also performed to maximize the experiences of students with the local community through actively participating in the event.
1.2 Objectives
To optimize the experiences of QUT students in the event
To improve the opportunities that will help QUT students to effectively transition into the Brisbane’s life.
1.3 Methodology
This study uses a structured questionnaire to capture the responses of the QUTIC participants. A graph is used to represent the data that was gathered.
1.4 Scope
The population sample chosen for the study was limited to QUT university students; hence I gathered data from a total of 20 respondents from QUT University. The study sample in nature is similar to the QUT student population and can hence, be generalized.
2.0 Findings and Conclusions.
2.1. Question 1: Who has ever had of the event?
figure 1
2.1.1 Findings
The study found out that out of the 20 participants who I interviewed, only 1 had ever heard of the Bride to Brisbane expo fun run before (study finding).
2.1.2 Conclusion
This clearly shows that there is massive lack of awareness of this event; hence intensive student sensitization about the bridge to Brisbane in needed is the students are to know about it.
2.2 Question 2: Who they prefer to talk about the vent
figure 2
2.2.1 Findings:
In whom the participants would prefer to talk with regarding the completion of the QUTIC orientation expo, 7 indicated that they prefer to speak with the race organizer, 3 indicated that they preferred a mentor, 8 opted for the QUTIC staff, while 2 said they would talk to QUTIC student (study finding).
2.2.2 Conclusion:
It seems that averagely students prefer to speak to QUTIC staff and race organizers, therefore event’s organizers and QUTIC need to open up to students and talk to them about this event.
2.3 Question 3: What motivates students to participate?
figure 3
2.3.1 Findings
In respect to what motivates the participates to take part in the event, 1 participant indicated that it boosts self confidence, 2 said, understanding the local community, 7 said they are motivated because the event improves health, 5 of them said it establishes friendships knowledge and the other 5 indicated that to develop culture (study finding).
2.3.2 Conclusion
QUT students seem to have mixed feelings about what motivates them to participate in this event, about the same number indicate that go for the event because it improve their health, which however is to the objective of the event is still a good idea, ones who said establish friendship knowledge and develop culture were the same, meaning that were within the range of the objective of the event which was to establish a coherent transition in Brisbane life.
2.4 Question 4: The benefits that attractive QUT students to take part in the event
figure 4
2.4.1 Findings
Concerning the benefits that could encourage several QUTIC students to participate in the expo event, 1 said to boost confidence, 6 indicated to establish satisfaction, 9 said experiences, 4 reported attain fitness and no one said to establish sense of giving (study finding).
2.4.2 Conclusion
This means that majority of students deem experience as the most important benefit from the event and with a considerable proportion indicating to establish satisfaction, and fitness and insignificant number of students see boosting confidence as key benefit.
2.5 Question 5: How event organizers can inspire QUT students to participate
figure 5
2.5.1 Findings
Finally on the question on how Bridge to Brisbane could motivate QUTIC students to take part in the event: one said free race ticket, 6 indicated share experiences, 5 reported fun run, 8 said if there are free fitness programs and nobody said presenting a film (study finding).
2.5.2 Conclusion:
This suggests that many students can take part in the event if they are offered free fitness classes, and if there are experiences shared in the event as well as fun. Films will insignificantly motivate students to take part in the event.
3.0 Recommendations
3.1
Since massive lack of awareness about this event, I would recommend that all the stakeholders of bridge to Brisbane event should make a concerted effort to ensure that students are more aware of this event. One of the ways through which this could be done is through advertising this event on the QUT website where students visit regularly and will definitely see it there are see if read about it. The other thing is by printing posters of this event and placing them of the notice boards. Finally, appointing event representative to come to QUT University and talk to students about this event.
3.2
Because it is now apparent from the study that students are more inclined to talk either event organizers or QUT staff regarding the accomplishment of QUTIC expo event. I would recommend that the event organizers and QUT staff open up to the students and tell them the significance of completing this expo. One way they can do this is by having discussion forums where they openly and constructively discuss the QUTIC expo, and students would be more interest since they have confidence in these groups.
3.3
In order for the event to motivate more students to participate, it should be designed in way that it has a lot of events that improve friendship knowledge to the students, it also need to organized in manner that make students improves the health and enrich culture of students and they can do this by inviting people from diverse communities.
3.4
Top of the list of the benefits of QUTIC expo should designed to create fitness, experience more things which are interesting and informative and develop a sense of satisfaction of what they have participated in a part from simply running for fun. Therefore to enhance fitness they can make the race longer, to develop sense of satisfaction they need to ensure that the objective of the event is attained. They can make the event more interactive by inviting different important people, universities and make to an all encompassing event.
3.5
Finally, in order for the organizers of the bridge to Brisbane fun run to motivate QUT students to take part in the event, make arrangements for free fitness programs. The study has also revealed that many students will participate in this event is held in QUT therefore, the organizers should ensure that one of the events take place in the university. Participates should also share the experiences that will encourage others to participate and maximize participation of students in the next QUTIC expo.
