The following paper under the title 'Uber as the Best Car Service Company' is an outstanding example of a business term paper. Uber is an app-based car service company that operates in 53 countries and more than 200 cities worldwide. The company uses a smartphone application to request rides. The policy issue that we want to further study for our final project is why taxi drivers must have a Medallion to be a driver, but Uber drivers do not. The medallion process causes much more stress on the Taxi drivers than it does any good.

To be able to drive the yellow- taxicabs, drivers have to buy a medallion. Due to this medallion system, there is a limited number of cabs available, which is a major entry barrier in the New York City taxi market. Due to the cost of the medallion being so high, the system may lower the drivers' income and raise the price that passengers have to pay. In 2011, the medallion was worth $1,000,000, and now in 2015, it has dropped to $805,000, which people think is due to services such as Uber. Why is it that to drive a taxi, there is a huge expense of a medallion, and to be an Uber driver, one must have a valid license and pass a background check?

Our goal is to determine why the policy is different for Taxi drivers and Uber drivers and how Uber drivers cannot have a medallion.Other issues arose in European countries such as England, France, Italy, and Germany. The lawsuits combine legal actions against Uber as taxicabs and regulators across those countries confronted the company’s more convenient, cheaper, and consumer-friendly group of drivers. The lawsuits assert that Uber’s surge-pricing model is similar to price-fixing, which creates an unfair marketplace since the company has interfered with cabdrivers’ relationships with their clients.

We thought it would be interesting and compelling to delve further into Uber and how it is running internationally. Before beginning this project, we wondered what the reactions that the taxi drivers have to Uber were in European countries, and if they were the same reactions to what we have here in America.
