Beardwell (2014, p. 4) defines it, “as a collection of policies, that are used for purposes of organizing the manner which the employees of an organization would work”. Beardwell (2014) further asserts that human resource management involves two aspects, that is the management of work, and that of employees, undertaking the mentioned work. Based on this definition, it is possible to assert that the human resource department of an organization has the responsibility of managing the employees of the organization (Beardwell, 2014). The employees of an organization are the most important resources that the organization commands, and hence there is a need of establishing a department that would identify their needs, developing and implementing policies aimed at satisfying their needs. This includes motivational policies such as a raise in salary, recognition of the best performing employees, etc. Torrington, Hall, Taylor and Atkinson (2014, p 5) explain that, the human resource department is involved in, “ in making the employees of the organization to act in a productive manner, for purposes of enabling the business to prosper, and they too, would thrive”. To achieve this objective, the human resource department is responsible for recruiting the best talent, within the organization (Beardwell, 2014). Furthermore, the human resource department has the responsibility of training them, managing their performance, for purposes of obtaining the required skills that can help in the development and growth of the company (Torrington, Hall, Taylor and Atkinson, 2014). Question 2: Recommendation to Tesco on Recruitment Methods: Tesco Company can use the three existing methods of employment if they need to recruit a new customer service assistant. Some of the methods the organization can use include, internal sourcing, external sourcing and the third party sourcing. In using the internal sourcing, the company will have to advertize a position of customer service assistance. In this method of employment, the company will have to employ one of its employees for the new position. Internal sourcing is a very good method of hiring because the newly employed person will need little or no training. This will also reduce the companies expenses such as advertising for the new position. Internal sourcing also promotes equality and loyalty among the team members (Kleynhans, 2006). If the organization feels that it has no competent person within the organization to fill the position of custom service assistant, it can opt for external sourcing. The organization will do this through external recruitment tools such as advertisement in the newspaper and job boards. External sourcing is also important as the organization can higher a candidate who will contribute new ideas to the organization. The third method that the company could use is the third-party sourcing. The company can decide to use the placement agency to find a qualified candidate. Some of the technique used by the third-party sourcing includes the provision of benefits packages (Kleynhans, 2006). Question 3: Recommendation to Tesco on Selection Methods Some of the selection methods that can be used by Tesco include an interview, Psychometric Testing, Personality profiling, Assessment centers and work sample tests. Interviews are vital for the company when the company wants to select the right candidate for the specific position. For the right candidate to be selected by the organization for the required task, the question provided for the candidate should be very specific. These questions should be a key requirement for the job. The organization should also select their candidates using psychometric testing. This is the only way the organization can test a range of attributes. However this term is always very confusing, but in real it means the mental measure. It would be wise for the company to have a proper psychometric testing if the best candidate is to be selected. This calls for the organization to have psychometric testing to be carried out by a staff that is well qualified (Gilmore, & Williams, 2012). In personality profiling, a candidates personality may affect the candidates suitability for a given post. The company may use this method of selection to identify certain behaviors in a candidate that is best for the job than the others. The organization should device this method in a way that it specifically important job aspects and measure the individuals performance in the job (Gilmore, & Williams, 2012). This would increase efficiency of the candidate. Earlier the Coca- Cola product was determined by the cost of production, other expenses, and the profit.
