Apparently, the company is operating in a very competitive industry where consumer tastes, preferences and wants rapidly change due to dynamism experienced in the corporate world and particularly the electronics industry. I decide to use this company as it is one of the companies that has successfully managed cross-cultural communication and enabled it to outperform major competitors. I will assess the strengths and weaknesses of monographs, Google and the Financial Internet Public Library in providing essential information for my dissertation in regards to the following question: How has management of cross-cultural communication enabled Samsung to rise to global domination? 1. Online databases 1.1. Internet Public Library After a quick but vigilant search of information, I came across the Internet Public Library (IPL). I quickly typed in my dissertation thesis after shortening it. In the search category drop box, I selected all of ipl2 and clicked enter. The website screened across thousands of information and but could not figure out any meaningful information that could be of help in my dissertation paper. Luckily, the website had the Ask an ipl2 Librarian section which one could use for more customized questions and data. I used the section and asked my question through the Ask an ipl2 Librarian Question Form (Anastasia, 2014). After some minutes, it sent some vital mails with important information into the email I had initially provided. While the data source might be perceived to be comparatively quick and resourceful, the initial states are rather confusing and might be tricky for a scholar to handle, particularly if it is their first time to use the website. Additionally, the data presented is lacking in finer details that could be meaningful in refining my thesis and presenting recent as well as chronological data in respect to the Samsung’s background and essential cross-cultural elements embraced. Similarly, the data presented might be skewed to suit the specific interests of the website superintendents and this might lead to a buildup of wrong information and conclusion in my exposition (Booth & Harrington, 2003). Disparagingly, the website kept on crushing, and I received the Crashes & Uptime messages severally, and could hardly be found at times thus delaying the speed of collecting the data while more time is lost superfluously. However, I can attribute most of these preliminary errors to my lack of understanding of how IPL works. As any other website, spam was common and within 10 minute of the search, I found several spam e-mails in my inbox and had to purchase a FormGurad which made this data collection method costly (Zikmund, 2003). Additionally, the database contained lots of information and it was significantly difficult to filter and discard the extraneous data and remain with the required data. Data was hastily generalized and plummeted the efficiency of the data collection process. 1.2. IUC Management Review It is a universal journal devoted to advancing all aspects of theory, research and practice and this outstanding fact made be to consider it an inevitable data source for my dissertation. The information contained therein is from various authors at different stages of their professional or academic life, presented in a clear and succinct language (Zikmund, 2003). From the various manuscripts in the database, I could easily found meaningful information that can drive my dissertation. This information includes; Cultural homogenization and how it impacts on Samsung’s operations. Hofstedes work and contribution to cross-cultural communication and diversity management. Strategies for growing customer value and lucrativeness in Samsung despite operating in diverse environments. Interestingly, the data in the database was quite comprehensive and explicated the essential information that is necessary in understanding the fundamental efforts that Samsung has undertaken to ensure that it efficiently manages the apparent diversity and inclusion in its various branches the world over. Moreover, it could easily summarize the information on how Samsung interconnects and communicates with other companies such as those in America as presented below; However, this site is somewhat limited in what one can do as it lacks navigation points such as back and next. Therefore, it proved to be challenging to manage the data and mining deep information was fiddly. Additionally, I could hardly come across any numerical data that could support the correlation between effective cross-cultural communication and revenue growth in Samsung (Zikmund, 2003). The information contained therein was mostly theoretical and there were no graphs and tables to supplement the elucidations. However, this website could be bolstered through addition of more concrete financial information that would have made the descriptions more lucid, meaningful and coherent. 2. Internet sources Internet sources are one of the major sources of gathering data for a research as they are faster, efficient and reliable for dissertation purpose. Google is a search machine that is globally used as an academic source hence developing experts. Conversely, the Google has been criticized by some individuals “Google search is not prearranged as conventional bibliographic database in the similar method that Thomson and Scopus wish it could be arranged” (Segev, 2010). Other setbacks of Google include limited functionality as compared with other website builders and low rate of accuracy that is displaying the data. 2.1. Google search summary Google has three vital parts that are used in the research of data namely: Googlebot web crawler: it is a crawling robot that finds and consequently retrieves pages to the Google indexer. It sends the request typed to server for web page then to Google indexer. Google’s indexer: the Googlebot is the one that gives indexer full text that it finds. Such like database are stored in index database. Index is then sorted alphabetically by the search term with every index entry list of data retrieved. Google’s query processor has some parts that include the user interface that evaluates the found data and analyze it. It determines which data are relevant, sizes of the search terms within the page and popularly of the page (see appendix 2) After a lengthy evaluation of credibility of the Google, am convinced that indeed it is the best as far as delivery of data is concerned. I am of the opinion that definitely Google produced the best and above all the high quality data for my dissertation. The general overview from the writers and other public press pointed concerns about the social-cultural towards improvement of the Samsung products globally. 2.1.1. Limitations of the Google search Google requires a high level of skills in digital such as data presentation, data recording and analyzing. It is sometimes doing not encourage ethics because although the data is easily reached and obtainable does not automatically mean that it is for research purposes. Some data are rapidly generated hence making it cumbersome to interpret and understand the data. When there is low internet connection at some point, it takes time to process it hence time consuming. The data generated by the Google search are prone to low quality as due diligence is not devoted in carrying out the research. The data produced by the Google is difficult to determine the degree of reliability and authenticity of data hence not trusted by a number of researchers. There lies a risk of exposure of personal responsive information that may lead to destruction of his reputation. 2.1.2. Google evaluation After a systematic subjection of the data to scrutiny I ascertain that Google presents a candy research engine. It has a high speed, it does not require database skills to carry out research and no software installation is necessary. Large data volume from variety of sources are retrieved and relied upon. The Google has increased my level of skills and expertise hence enhancing the efficiency of research operations. Though to my perception Google is a good machine, this should not be fully relied upon as is might be subject to biasness and fallacy. 2.2. Yahoo search engine Yahoo is a further data search engine method used globally by the researchers. In data processing using yahoo starts with clicking the yahoo icon on the top bar of the computer. The interface appears. On the right of the query editor there are multiple of lines to perform the query. The name of the query is saved. Click on the tables’ top of the composition and then the new tables by the name temp batting will be seen (Rico, 2014). After execution of query, have a look at the tables read and interpret the data (see appendix 3). 3. Hard copy sources Journals I decide to use Journals to research as it provides vivacious data that will help me assess how cross-cultural influence Samsung. Journals are reliable academic sources as these sources are usually published and are reviewed more often to ensure the content remains pertinent. I have also decided to use journals as it encourages deep learning thus enhancing analytical skills among learners.it is also important to note that journal are accessible and readily available in institution libraries and in public libraries and are vital in providing concept context for further planning and studies (Hansen, 2003). In my estimation through using exhibit 3.7, journals are the most resourceful sources that are commonly used in academic research. Below is an example of journal giving detail about cross-cultural and it is influences on Samsung Journals as source of my academic research show it is strength as it helped me collect vibrant data necessary in discovering best management strategies indispensable at improving cross-cultural communication. Exhibit 7.9 However, the journals can be viewed as cumbrous as some are much complex and it take lot of time for one to grasp the content. Journals have limitation as some authors are prejudiced. Some authors fail to enquiry diverse culture in the world hence making the sources unreliable. Another limitation of using Journals is availability of error made in literature review; particularly by new writers hence conveying a distorted content. Journal can also be inappropriate as data is composed with concrete concepts in mind hence author may present they personal feeling rather than reality (Steers et al., 2010). Journal academic resources lack quality as government and institution responsible in reviewing journal fail to grantee apprentice quality content found in journal. The method that I have used to gather my data is sampling survey. I have visited the library and consulted several journal sources to see the availability of error made in literature review. I consulted 100 hard-copies each from different field and after evaluating I found that journal cannot be 100% reliable as some journal resource are complex and it take lot of time for one to grasp the content (Hansen, 2003). The 6 hard-copies I picked them randomly to make sure I had excluded biasness hence making sure that I achieve my goal. 4. Conclusion In the data collection exercise, it became apparent that Google search engine is superior to other sources of information as its content is of satisfactory quality and contains almost all vital information that might be necessary in the dissertation. A proper dissertation requires background information and opinions which can effectively be obtained through literature reviews and data retrieval from IUC Management Review and IPL sources whose data can be perceived to be quite limited and somewhat subject to misrepresentation.
